While these friendly animals will gladly accept affection and encouragement from the public, they are also hard at work performing a crucial environmental task: keeping local lands clear of geese.

Local Ladies of British Heritage host Donation Drive for Homeless Women

New Milford NJ, The Bergen County-based Dame Elizabeth Cadbury Chapter of the Daughters of the British Empire in the U.S. recently held a donation drive to benefit a local chapter of the national non-profit “I Support the Girls.”  Chapter members led a drive for undergarments, socks and feminine products that ultimately benefitted the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless. Items were distributed at their Mother’s Day event.
Over 5000 feminine products and over 400 undergarments were collected in this first time effort by the ladies. Chapter members pictured left to right are Secretary Margaret Frontera of New Milford, NJ and Project Lead Janice Carter, RN, of Lodi.

Bergen County Holds Annual Ceremony Recognizing Israeli Independence Day

Hackensack NJ, yesterday the County of Bergen raised the Israeli Flag at One Bergen County Plaza and held its annual ceremony to recognize Yom Ha’zikaron (Israeli Memorial Day) and Yom Ha’atzmaot (Israeli Independence Day). As is common in Jewish tradition, these days of mourning and celebration are observed closely together and for the past eight years, the County has recognized both at this annual event to remember those lost in the struggle for independence and to recognize the friendship between our two nations.

Garfield NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 30-year-old TRISTAN COLQUHOUN of Paterson, NJ on charges of drug distribution, weapons related offenses, and receiving stolen property. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck and the Suffern (NY) Police Department under the direction of Police Chief Andrew Loughlin.

Fairleigh Dickinson University, Madison, NJ, according to the latest results from the FDU Poll, sponsored by the Fuel Merchants Association of New Jersey, New Jersey voters support the recently passed fees on electric vehicles by more than a 2 to 1 margin. The survey questions, which monitored the opinions of voters on transportation funding, also show that a majority of voters (58-34) want gas tax and vehicle registration revenues to be dedicated to funding roads and bridges, rather than used to subsidize New Jersey Transit.

Bergen Budget Sees a 2.27% Increase

Hackensack NJ, During last Wednesday’s work session of the Board of County Commissioners, County Executive James Tedesco unveiled Bergen County’s 2024 budget, which reflects a 2.27% increase over the current budget. This uptick translates to an annual rise of $32.02 in the tax bill for the average assessed home valued at $530,000.

Ridgewood NJ, here we go again, flood watch is now in effect from Saturday morning through late Saturday night for portions of northeast New Jersey and southeast New York, including Bergen , Passaic and Hudson  counties. Excessive rainfall may lead to flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and low-lying areas, especially in poor drainage and urban regions.
