NJ TRANSIT TO REOPEN REMAINING RAIL WAITING ROOMS ON SEPTEMBER 7th

Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT customers are welcome to once again use NJ TRANSIT indoor waiting rooms at rail stations that are not staffed with ticket agents beginning Tuesday, September 7th.  Waiting rooms were temporarily closed as a precaution to protect customers and employees against the spread of COVID-19. The station waiting rooms will be open for the same hours they were prior to the pandemic. Waiting rooms with staffed ticket windows have been open since September 2020.

NJ TRANSIT crews have been working around the clock to assess damage from the storm and make the necessary repairs and inspections to resume service as quickly and safely as possible for our customers.  The storm inflicted significant impacts to tracks and roadways with areas of high water and significant debris throughout the system.  Please see below for systemwide service information.

Newark NJ, NJ TRANSIT continues to advance the $190-million renovation and revitalization of Newark Penn Station with today’s release of a Request for Proposals (RFP) for Master Planning, Conceptual, Preliminary, and Final Design, and Construction Assistance Services. In December, Governor Phil Murphy joined NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin Corbett, community leaders and municipal, county and state officials to announce this major investment that will breathe new life into the 86-year-old station and it’s surrounding area in the downtown of the State’s largest city.

Newark NJ, NJ Transit Police officers took lifesaving action to aid a stabbing victim. The incident occurred at a commercial establishment outside the system. The injured victim was able to reach Newark Penn Station. At Newark Penn Station, an observant 3rd party alerted patrolling officers. ⁣

Armed man spotted chasing another, disarmed and apprehended by NJ Transit Police

Newark NJ, On Monday 8/2/21, New Jersey Transit Police Officers Penalva and Ydo were on a patrol detail at Newark Penn Station. The officers observed a man enter the station while brandishing a knife and chasing another man. The officers quickly acted to disarm and ultimately apprehend the aggressor. Their immediate response prevented any injury and brought a safe resolution to a dangerously unfolding incident.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo Admits Benefitting From COVID with a $5.1 million book deal

Albany NY , New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s book American Crisis, written with the help of his taxpayer-funded aides, netted him a $5.1 million book deal. The New York Governor  said in a speech to the nation’s  governors,

“Very few people were going through what we went through (with the pandemic) and we went through it together. And speaking for myself, it was a tremendous personal benefit.”

Good News About Lockdowns: Less Traffic Congestion for New York Commuters

Ridgewood NJ, Wendell Cox lays of changes in traffic congestion in a  new report called New Geography . The good news. “Among 101 urban areas, the congestion level was 11% in 2020, a 62% drop from the 28% rate of 2019.” (A 28% score means the trip takes 28% longer than it would with no traffic.) This was the lowest congestion rate in at least 39 years.

Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT supports and encourages the use of personal vehicles, such as bicycles, e-bikes, e-scooters, Segways, and hoverboards, by providing accommodations for customers using personal vehicles to the greatest extent possible.There is no extra charge for bringing personal vehicles aboard NJ TRANSIT vehicles, access is allowed from all station platforms, and permits are not required.

For passengers’ safety, riding or charging personal vehicles inside NJ TRANSIT facilities or on board NJ TRANSIT vehicles is strictly prohibited. Gasoline-powered personal vehicles, such as mopeds, are also prohibited on NJ TRANSIT vehicles.

With a simple tap on their mobile device, customers can see the location of the next bus or train along with the estimated arrival time to their location. The mobile app update also provides enhanced integration with NJT Rewards, the program where customers can earn points for deals and discounts.
