Fort Lee NJ, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey strongly encourages travelers by air, rail and road to allot additional travel time during the five-day July Fourth holiday travel period. More than 5.5 million passengers are expected to use its airports, bridges and tunnels between Wednesday, July 3 and Sunday, July 7, which would represent a record high for the July Fourth travel period.

Newark NJ, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced today that nearly 14 million travelers are expected to use its airports and vehicular crossings during the 13-day peak travel period from Thursday, Dec. 21, to Tuesday, Jan. 2. The Port Authority expects this to be the busiest Christmas and New Year travel period ever for its three major airports, a continuation of travel trends seen throughout the year.

Port Authority of New York and Jersey Seeks $3 Billion Federal Bailout

Fort Lee NJ, Port Authority of New York and Jersey Chairman Kevin O’Toole and Executive Director Rick Cotton called on the federal government to provide the Port Authority with $3 billion in direct financial assistance to avoid the devastating impact of sharp revenue losses to the agency’s critically important capital construction projects. The agency has projected revenue losses of $3 billion over 24 months as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The federal aid will protect the agency’s capital plan – and by doing so, to help drive the region’s and the nation’s economic recovery.

Cash toll Collection at Hudson River Crossings Suspended

Fort Lee NJ,   Drivers between New York and New Jersey will not be able to pay with cash going forward. The Port Authority announced , “All Port Authority Crossings to NY now have cashless tolling. EZ Pass or tolls by mail. Vehicles should keep moving through the toll plaza at safe speeds.”

The  shift to electronic toll collection at the George Washington Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel and Holland Tunnel starting 9 p.m. on Sunday. License plate images will be captured for drivers without E-ZPass and bills will be sent to the registered owner of the vehicle.

Discount programs, including carpool rates, will also be temporarily suspended.

Port Authority Police Catch $30,000 Ticket Scofflaw

Jersey City NJ, Port Authority Police Officer Chris Johnson pulled over a car at the Holland Tunnel Tuesday morning and discovered more than $30,000 in unpaid tolls and fees at all three Hudson River crossings, the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway, according to Port Authority Police spokesman Joseph Pentangelo.

The woman, identified as Shakeema N. North, 38, of Orange NJ, had 5 different EZ pass accounts and $30,000 in unpaid tolls and resulting fees from more than 400 separate incidents of toll evasion,

North was arrested on a charge of theft of services and given a summons requiring her to appear in court next Tuesday.
