Weehawken NJ,  NY Waterway and NJ TRANSIT announced the completion of a major ferry retrofit that dramatically cuts its emissions, with five more ferries to be upgraded in the future. The fully refitted Hoboken has brand new engines and greater passenger capacity, while using 25 percent less fuel and emitting 80 percent less NOx engine exhaust.

NJ Transit Forced to Shut Down Train Service Friday Evening Over What it Called an ‘illegal job action’

Ridgewood NJ, Due to an illegal job action initiated Friday morning by the locomotive engineers’ union (BLE&T), rail service was terminated early Friday evening and remained temporarily suspended for the remainder of the service day on Friday, June 17th.

Governor Hochul and Governor Murphy Announce Major Step Toward Modernization of Penn Station

New York NY, NY Penn Station has been the bane of commuters for as long as we can remember  . Since the original Penn Stations  destruction in the 1960s, the station has become something mythic, a sacrificial lamb to the cause of historic preservation. Unfortunately for commuters the current Penn Station leaves much to be desired it is and had been a dump for generations . New York Governor Kathy Hochul with New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy are not the first politicians to step in and attempt to fix the current mess but hopefully the time is right and commuters could see some relief .

George Washington Bridge Moves to Cashless Tolling on Sunday July 10th

Fort Lee NJ, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey today announced that a new electronic tolling system will be activated at the George Washington Bridge on Sunday, July 10. The George Washington Bridge (GWB) will be the largest and busiest of the agency’s three Hudson River crossings to completely modernize its tolling infrastructure to 21st century standards following activation of a similar system at the Holland Tunnel in December 2020.

Amtrak Employee Gets 18 Months for Defrauding Amtrak of More Than $76,000 Worth of Chainsaws and Chainsaw Parts

TRENTON NJ, an Ocean County, New Jersey, man was sentenced today to 18 months in prison for fraudulently obtaining chainsaws and chainsaw parts from his employer Amtrak and then selling this equipment for personal profit, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced.

Ridgewood NJ, the NJ TRANSIT Board of Directors today approved the purchase of 25 additional Multilevel III rail cars. The purchase exercises options on the original December 2018 contract with Alstom for the purchase of 113 new Multilevel III rail cars.  The additional 25 cars in this action are funded as part of the Portal North Bridge project which will increase peak-hour peak-direction customer capacity.

NEWARK NJ, NJ TRANSIT’s Board of Directors today approved an innovative and first of its kind all-inclusive professional services contract to perform Master Planning, Design Services, and Construction Support Services as part of a long-term project for the major restoration and renovation of historic Newark Penn Station.  In addition, the Board of Directors approved funding for Phase One of the contract, which includes the preparation of a Master Plan and completion of a 10% concept design.
