NJ TRANSIT Has Major Breakthrough in Passenger Safety

Federal Railroad Administration Certifies NJ TRANSIT’s Positive Train Control (PTC) system

Ridgewood NJ,  Governor Phil Murphy today, alongside NJ TRANSIT Board Chair and Department of Transportation Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti, NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin Corbett, Amtrak President Stephen Gardner, Federal Railroad Administrator Ron Batory, and Parsons Corporation’s Terry Fetters, announced that NJ TRANSIT’s Positive Train Control (PTC) system has been certified by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) as meeting the December 31, 2020 deadline for implementation. This major accomplishment comes after nearly three years of around the clock work, first to meet the interim milestone for equipment and infrastructure installation at the end of 2018, and then to achieve this certification for full implementation. When Governor Murphy took office in January of 2018, the project was at just 12% completion toward the 2018 interim goal for equipment and infrastructure installation.

NJ Transit Rail Service will Operate on a Severe Weather Schedule; Bus and Light Rail will run Regular Weekday Service

Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT buses, light rail and Access Link will operate on a regular weekday schedule for as long as weather and road conditions allow.  Rail service will run on a Level 2 Severe Weather Schedule due to the predicted severe winter storm starting tomorrow. Federal Transit Administration Selects NJ Transit and Rutgers University for a Grant to Study Pedestrian Detection at Rail Crossings

Ridgewood NJ, Rutgers University in partnership with NJ TRANSIT has been selected for a grant award by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for its Safety Research and Demonstration Program. Rutgers University in cooperation with NJ TRANSIT received $357,000 to study pedestrian detection, one of ten grants awarded throughout the country.

NEWARK NJ, a keen-eyed New Jersey Transit Police Officer on patrol in Newark Penn Station this week spotted and arrested a suspect wanted for a home invasion robbery and attempted murder of a 17-year-old girl in Montclair. New Jersey Transit Police Officer Bryan Richards recognized the suspect walking in Newark Penn Station on Monday November 9th after a bulletin was issued by Montclair police and placed him under arrest.

NJ Transit “My Active Trip” Feature Provides Rail Customers Ability To Set Alerts When Train Arrives At Destination

Ridgewood NJ,  NJ TRANSIT is launching a new feature on its mobile app that will make it easier than ever for rail customers to use their location to navigate the system with their mobile devices. Customers will now have the ability, once their phone’s location services are enabled, to use the “My Active Trip” feature, which will provide a push notification to alert customers on board a train when they are approaching their selected destination.

Body Discovered Along NJ Transit Main Line Tracks in Clifton

Clifton NJ, a NJ Transit crew on a train Port Jervis bound train , discovered a dead body along the Main Line tracks between Clifton and Paterson on Tuesday night.

The incident is currently under investigation by NJ Transit  and  there was no confirm on whether the person was hit by a train.

Trains running on the Main-Bergen Line were subject to 30-minute delays because of the investigation and that at least one train scheduled to depart Hoboken at 8:46 p.m. was canceled. By 10 p.m., that evening  NJ Transit  also reported that a Hoboken-bound train was running an hour behind schedule.

Man Struck by NJ Transit Train in Hackensack

Hackensack NJ, around 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, an unidentified man, was fatally struck by a NJ Transit train near Passaic Street in Hackensack. The train had departed from Hoboken around 2:13 p.m. and was Spring Valley bound.

New York NY, The U.S. Department of Justice today identified the following three jurisdictions that have permitted violence and destruction of property to persist and have refused to undertake reasonable measures to counteract criminal activities: New York City; Portland, Oregon; and Seattle, Washington. The Department of Justice is continuing to work to identify jurisdictions that meet the criteria set out in the President’s Memorandum and will periodically update the list of selected jurisdictions as required therein.
