AGENDA21 – THE NEW SERFDOM
Posted on April 26, 2012, 9:00 AM

Agenda21 is global socialism directed through the United Nations. “Smart Growth” is doublespeak for planned communities. “Sustainable Development” means a centrally planned economy. “Industry Clusters” are government work factories. “Green Design” is the clustering of people in 700 sq/ft, 14 story “pack and stack” living quarters with your personal universe restricted to walking distance or light rail travel to your place of work. This is the reinvention of Mao’s China.

The famous tome “Road to Serfdom” by F. A. Hayek (1944) is the treatise on why planned economies must always fail and create misery in their path. Von Mises, Hayek and the other Austrian Economist (Ludwig Von Mises, F. A. Hayek, Murray Rothbard) contrast the liberty and prosperity of free market capitalism with the failure and totalitarian nature of socialism’s planned economy. In America for the first 225 years, free markets prevailed. In a nutshell, this means that 311 million people make individual decisions based on their individual needs and wants day in and day out. Billions of decisions are made by families given a wide plethora of choices and complex individual constraints. Agenda21 and socialism in general superimpose a one size fits all central decision in its place.

The first consequence is an economic desert. It is not a coincidence that most technological innovations occurred in the United States. In a planned economy, perhaps Edison might have invented a more efficient kerosene lamp. Government mandates for lighting may have funded safer or more luminous lanterns. Instead, Thomas Edison performed thousands of experiments with his own time and money creating the light bulb. It allowed for increased mobility during dark hours and improved education. Likewise, Henry Ford simply applied general theory of economic “division of labor” to make the automobile less expensive and abundant. A central planner may have simply commanded him to build lighter and safer horse buggies.

acknowledgment letter for your tax purposes. If your company has a matching gift

program, your gift can be doubled.

Our Committee is pleased to announce that it will sponsor our 102nd celebration on

Wed., July 4, 2012. The theme of this year’s observation is “Born in New Jersey.”

Our theme, “Born in New Jersey”, is meant to include:

1. Famous people born here (but not limited to Bruce Springsteen and Frank Sinatra)

2. Things invented here (for example, Edison’s light bulb)

3. Events that occurred here that gave new direction to our country (Washington

Crossing the Delaware, Morristown encampment)

The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration began in 1910 when the local papers, the

civic section of the Woman’s Club and the Ridgewood Fire Department joined forces to

create a “safe and sane” holiday with an emphasis on Patriotism. It has grown into one

of the largest celebrations in the New York City area and has been featured on CNN and

Good Morning America as well as local New York stations. The celebration was once

again named Best Parade and Fireworks by the readers of 201 Magazine.

Thanks to the dedication of citizens like you, our celebration continues to bring

patriotism and pride to Ridgewood. We are currently in the planning stages for what

we know will be a spectacular celebration, and it is vital that we have community

involvement. Because of generous support from the community, we have one of the

best small town July 4th celebrations, and if every family that enjoys the celebration

contributed just $10, the day’s expenses would be covered. Donations may be made

online at www.ridgewoodjuly4th.org or by mailing your check to P.O. Box 140,

Ridgewood, NJ 07451.

The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration is organized by an all-volunteer

performers, insurance, extra police and fire personnel, are funded by voluntary

participation from businesses and individuals as well as the sale of tickets to our

fireworks show. The Committee is not part of the Village of Ridgewood government and

receives no direct funding from the Village.

Study: Postal closure would save $11.3M annually

Nearly half of the more than 200 employees at the U.S. Postal Service distribution center in Eatontown could lose their jobs next year if the service follows through on its plan to close the facility.
The Postal Service would save about $11.3 million a year if that facility is closed, according to the results of a feasibility study done on the proposal.

A public hearing on that plan is set for 7 p.m. Dec. 15 at Monmouth Regional High School in Tinton Falls.
Also being studied for closure is the Kilmer Processing and Distribution Center in Edison. That study is still in its early stages and no savings or projected job losses have been made, said postal service spokesman George Flood.  (Bowman, Gannett)

>Municipal revenue struggles continue as Washington is slow to modify tax laws

The still-weak economy continues to squeeze state and municipal governments, which have less to work with as long-established revenue streams dry up in the prolonged recovery.

According to Tim Burley, partner in charge of the tax practice at WiserMazars LLP, in Edison, fixing antiquated tax loopholes like sales tax collection for online retailers will help bring the tax code more in line with the way the U.S. economy works, but can only be done at the federal level.  (Caliendo, NJBIZ)

Storms a factor as state loses 11,000 jobs

New Jersey’s economy lost 11,100 jobs in September — 5,800 in the private sector and 5,300 in the public sector — in a sign that Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee disrupted the labor market, the state reported Thursday.

A separate survey found the state’s unemployment rate fell to 9.2 percent from 9.4 percent in August, according to the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

Take away the noise of the storms, and employers say they are inching along, doing enough business to survive but not enough to persuade them to go on a hiring spree.

“If companies open up spending, my business can grow,” said Marc Bublick, owner of C&C Computer Network Services in Edison, a technology consultant whose customers are spending only  (Diamond, Gannett)

Con Ed Warns of Power Problems As Tri-State Roasts in Heat Wave
Drink plenty of water and wear loose fitting clothing when possible.

The heat wave that claimed lives as it staggered across the nation has settled into the tri-state, pushing temperatures to 97 degrees Thursday in Central Park and a record-breaking 103 degrees in Newark, N.J.

It’s the sixth day of the scorching summer heat wave, and the heat is not expected to retreat until Sunday.

New Yorkers can expect temps above 100 degrees on Friday, possibly breaking more records, and the intense heat will sizzle through the weekend, with perhaps a bit of relief on Sunday.

Con Edison is warning customers to expect scattered outages for the next few days as the power grid is stressed at capacity. Con Ed said there were 49 active outages as of 10:30 p.m.

>The Barclays will return to the Ridgewood Country Club in 2014

>The Barclays will return to the Ridgewood Country Club in 2014

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — The PGA TOUR and Barclays announced today that the major global financial services provider has signed a four-year extension as title sponsor of The Barclays, the first tournament in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. The agreement extends the sponsorship through 2016 and will carry the PGA TOUR’s presence in the New York metropolitan area to 50 years, dating back to 1967. The Barclays 2011 will be held August 23-28 at Plainfield Country Club in Edison, N.J.

The course rotation is:

• 2012 – Bethpage State Park’s Black Course, Farmingdale, N.Y.

• 2013 — Liberty National, Jersey City, N.J.

• 2014 — Ridgewood Country Club, Paramus, N.J.

• 2015 — Plainfield Country Club, Edison, N.J.

• 2016 — Bethpage State Park’s Black Course, Farmingdale, N.Y.

Ridgewood Country Club – 2014

The Barclays will return to another recent host in 2014, Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J. Ridgewood has hosted The Barclays twice: in 2008 when Vijay Singh won the title — and eventually the FedExCup — by defeating Kevin Sutherland and Sergio Garcia in a sudden-death playoff; and last year, when Matt Kuchar, also in a sudden-death playoff, hit his approach shot from the left rough to less than three feet from the hole to beat Martin Laird with a birdie. Ridgewood was founded in 1890 and is one of the oldest clubs in America. In addition to two installments of The Barclays, the course — another A.W. Tillinghast design — has hosted the 1935 Ryder Cup, 1974 U.S. Amateur, 1990 U.S. Senior Open and 2001 Senior PGA Championship.

“The Ridgewood Country Club is pleased to host the first event of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup, and on behalf of the entire membership, I’d like to say how thrilled we are to welcome the PGA TOUR back to our historic club in 2014 for The Barclays,” said Robert Kobel, Ridgewood Country Club president. “Considering the results the last two times The Barclays was held here, we’re confident Ridgewood will once again provide a challenging test to the world’s best players and an exciting and thrilling finish for the great golf fans in this area.”

School board president Gene Maeroff says he knows of a district where nepotism hiring is out of control.

That place would be Edison, he says, his own district, one of many that he says has a “notorious” reputation for hiring based on connections. (Applebaum and Lee, The Star-Ledger)

Leslie Kwoh/The Star-Ledger

The housing boom and bust in New Jersey and surrounding areas proved milder than the rest of the nation, with homes here stabilizing at relatively higher prices, according to a report released yesterday by the New York Federal Reserve Bank.

Home values in the Garden State rose higher than the national average during the 2000 to 2006 boom period, but their ensuing decline was cushioned by a mature economy with fewer housing starts, according to the report, which also highlighted the New York and Connecticut markets.

“During this recession, the housing sector contributed less volatility to the regional economy than it did in much of the nation,” said William Dudley, the Fed’s president and CEO, during a quarterly press briefing yesterday.

In particular, Newark, Edison and Ocean City came out as “overperformers,” with home values in those towns soaring 12 percent to 17 percent during the boom years and falling less than 5 percent afterward. By contrast, homes in “boom-bust” cities like Phoenix, Miami, Las Vegas and Modesto, Calif., rose by a similar amount before plummeting 13 to 26 percent.

>NJ Voters Reject Majority Of School Bond Referenda

>NJ Voters Reject Majority Of School Bond Referenda

The results from yesterday’s school bond referenda are encouraging for New Jersey taxpayers. Under consideration were 14 measures across 9 districts totaling approximately $293M. Among these, only two were approved by the voters.

Referenda Passed

•Cumberland, NJ approved $9,960,123 in bonding to replace roof and install solar panels at high school.
•Montague Township approved $395,125 in new bonding for partial roof replacement and repairs at elementary school.
Referenda Rejected

The following are a few of the bond measures with the highest price tags that were rejected:

•Edison Township: $137,068,139 in bonding for renovations to 13 schools; $29,775,888 in bonding to build a new elementary school.
•Pennsauken Township: $34,665,986 in bonding to demolish an elementary school and construct a new school
•Wood Ridge: $14,922,540 in bonding for additions and renovations, including new classrooms and science labs, boilers, solar panels, and roof repairs; $10,388,543 in bonding for additions and renovations, including new classrooms, window replacement, electrical upgrades
These results are a strong sign that New Jersey voters are no longer willing to tolerate more borrowing, debt and higher property taxes.

In contrast, in 2009 there were 81 school bond referenda and only 33 were voted down.
