Multiple Alarm Fire in Hawthorne was Quickly Contained

Hawthorne NJ, A Friday morning, 11/08, multiple alarm fire in Hawthorne was quickly contained and brought under control, but not before it heavily damaged a single-story industrial building located at 70 Fifth Avenue. Hawthorne Fire Department personnel were assisted at the scene by fire departments from several neighboring communities. Hawthorne Police and Hawthorne EMS personnel also responded.

Pedestrian Rushed to Hospital after being Hit by Car in Hawthorne

Hawthorne NJ, Hawthorne Police conducted a full accident investigation at the scene of a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash in the 200 block of Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne, on Thursday evening, 11/07. An adult male pedestrian victim was severely injured and rushed by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. Hawthorne EMS and the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the incident. The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene.

Hepatitis A Case Confirmed in Paterson Food Handler

Paterson NJ, The New Jersey Department of Health is working with the Paterson Department of Health to notify residents about one confirmed case of hepatitis A in a food handler employed at Brother’s Produce located at 327 E Railway Ave, Paterson, NJ 07503.

The individual worked while they were potentially infectious between September 30 and October 5, 2019.

Tax Preparer and NJ State Trooper Sentenced To 30 Months In Prison For Tax Fraud

Plainfield NJ, A Plainfield, New Jersey, tax preparer was sentenced today to 30 months in prison for conspiring to defraud the IRS, falsifying his tax returns, and witness tampering, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Samuel Davis Jr., 54, previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Susan D. Wigenton to a three-count information charging him with conspiring to defraud the IRS, filing false personal tax returns, and witness tampering. Judge Wigenton imposed the sentence today in Newark federal court.

Two Seriously Injured when Car Hits House in Hawthorne

Hawthorne NJ, Two (2) serious injuries were reported in connection with an early Tuesday afternoon, 10/15, motor vehicle crash in the 600 block of Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne. The vehicle slammed into the wall of an office building while the driver was attempting to park at a nearby TD Bank. Hawthorne Police responded to the incident along with BLS and ALS units from The Valley Hospital. The wrecked passenger vehicle was removed from the scene by a tow truck. A building subcode official from the Borough of Hawthorne was dispatched to determine the extent of structural damage if any.

Irvington NJ, Democratic Assemblyman Jamel Holley said Gov. Phil Murphy’s been asleep at the switch on the Newarks lead crisis.

Holley is a member of the New Jersey General Assembly representing the 20th Legislative District. He was appointed to the seat on January 21, 2015, by the elected members of the Union County Democratic Committee from the 20th district municipalities of Elizabeth, Hillside, Roselle, and Union Township making him the first African American to represent the district. He is serving out the unexpired term of former Assemblyman and now State Senator Joseph Cryan.

Clifton NJ, a lawsuit claims a 33-year-old Clifton man, was leading a “double or triple life” as an ultra-Orthodox Jew with a pregnant wife and three kids in suburban New Jersey, but according to neighbors and the landlord he was hosting sex parties in his East Village apartment.

His wife claims she had no idea what her husband is up to in the four-story townhouse at 189 East 7th St.in New York City. , where he had been charging $60 a pop for sex-filled soirees featuring spankings and group foreplay.

The former student from Yeshiva Gedola of Passaic worshiped at “multiple congregations” in New Jersey, with his wife Shana Berman whom he met through friends.

Newark NJ, A Nigerian national extradited from Canada will appear in court today for his alleged role in a scheme that defrauded vendors of office products valued at nearly $1 million by “phishing” e-mail login information from government employees, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Olumide Ogunremi, a/k/a “Tony Williams,” was charged by indictment on Sept. 28, 2018, with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. He was extradited to the District of New Jersey on Sept. 26, 2019, and appeared today before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton in Newark federal court, where he pleaded not guilty and was detained without bail.

Paterson NJ, A Passaic County, New Jersey, man has been charged by indictment with kidnapping a 15-year-old girl and transporting her to Ohio, as well as with being in the United States illegally after previously being deported, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Juan Carlos Morales-Pedraza, 33, of Paterson, New Jersey, was charged in a superseding indictment with one count of kidnapping, one count of transportation of a minor, and one count of re-entry of removed aliens. He was arraigned today before U.S. District Judge Stanley R. Chesler in Newark federal court and pleaded not guilty.
