A stolen Volkswagen Jetta,, reportedly taken in Rochelle Park, was recovered by an alert Ridgewood PD Patrol Officer (Salvatore D’Amico) on Thursday afternoon.  The vehicle was found parked illegally in front of the Connect One Bank, 171 East Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood just before 4 PM.  The car’s engine was running and several women’s purses were observed on the front passenger seat.  A Rochelle Park detective responded to the scene to photograph the vehicle and it was subsequently removed by flatbed tow truck to be processed for fingerprints.  Police on the scene would not comment on the exact location of theft, or if the keys were left in the vehicle at the time.

High-Income Whites Put Booker Over the Top
By Rick Shaftan | The Save Jersey Blog

It’s not often that a Republican wins Wallington, South Hackensack, Lyndhurst, Ridgefield and Rochelle Park and loses Oradell, Old Tappan, Norwood, Woodcliff Lake and Northvale but that’s what happened in this month’s U.S. Senate election.

Comparing the 2013 special with the 2012 presidential reveals some interesting comparisons.

Statewide, Lonegan ran 4 percent ahead of Mitt Romney – enough to have elected Romney had he run that much better nationwide.  But Bergen County was one place where Lonegan actually ran behind Romney.

That’s news to people South of Route 4 where the former Bogota Mayor exceeded the 2012 Romney percentage by 10 points in Ridgefield, 11 points in Palisades Park, 12 points in Bogota and 16 points in South Hackensack.

But go North of 4 to the traditionally Republican part of the county and there’s a different story.  Lonegan dropped 14 points behind Romney’s 52 percent in Booker’s home town of Harrington Park, 13 points behind Romney’s 63 percent in Old Tappan and 10 points behind Romney’s 57 percent in Woodcliff Lake.

Lonegan’s drop from 28 to 17 percent in Teaneck is heavily caused by a major drop in the GOP vote share among Orthodox Jews. Mitt Romney won 58 percent of the vote in the four big Teaneck Orthodox districts (9, 10, 11 and 12) compared with just 28 percent for Lonegan, turning a 514 vote Obama deficit into a 749 vote Booker margi

Readers Remain Skeptical over potential Change in “Blue Laws”

Ridgewood stores are dying more from the lack of parking than the lack of Sunday shopping. 20 years and counting on a parking garage solution!!!! Paul……How about fixing that, instead of prioritizing the grandiose condo plans that will ruin our village.

Rte 17 will be at stand still on Sunday too? Drivers using Ridgewood local streets as a short cut. Can’t wait. Residents of Ridgewood, Maywood, Rochelle Park, Saddle Brook, River Edge and Oradell can look forward to pay more for Sunday police coverage while receiving none of the tax benefits that Paramus residents enjoy.

Ridgewood July 4th Flag Raising Will be Special

Each year the Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration begins with a flag raising ceremony.  It is the one part of the celebration that has always taken place even when the parade or fireworks did not.  This year the flag raising ceremony will take place at 9am at the flag pole at Wilsey Square near the westside train station.

The schedule for the flag raising is as follows:

Welcome by a Celebration Committee Member

Speech by a Village Council Member

Recognition of the Grand Marshals and Special Guests

Reading of the Declaration of Independence by a member of NJ Militia Heard’s Brigade

Flag raising by American Post 53, and Boy Scouts

“To the Colors” played by Dan Literati RHS Junior

Chester, Our National Anthem before “The Star Spangled Banner” performed by Heard’s Brigade

“The Star Spangled Banner” sung by Jodi DiPiazza

We are honored to have descendants of signers of the Declaration of independence as our Grand Marshals.  The Bartlett Family, descendants of Josiah Bartlett (Father’s side) and Benjamin Harrison (Mother’s side).  Thornton “Thorny” Lockhart is a descendant of Declaration signer Josiah Bartlett, and a first cousin, eight times removed, of Benjamin Franklin.

Our Special Guests are The Ridgewood College Club.  They are celebrating their 100th anniversary.  College Club of Ridgewood, founded in 1913, is a non-profit organization that provides educational opportunities for young women through a variety of needs-based grants and interest-free loans. Men are eligible at the graduate level.

We are thrilled to have a member of Heard’s Brigade join us to read the Declaration of Independence.  Heard’s Brigade is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public about the role of the Organized and Irregular companies of New Jersey Militia during the American Revolutionary War. They participate in battle re-enactments and living history displays to portray 18th century military and civilian life. Heard’s Brigade strives to always continue their research efforts to provide the most accurate impressions they can.

This year we welcome two gentlemen who were among the three boy scouts chosen from Troop 10 to raise the first flag on Veterans’ Field on July 4, 1951.  They are both graduates of RHS, class of 1955.Troop 10 was a segregated troop for African-Americans.

Dan Literati is entering his Junior year at Ridgewood High School. He is heavily involved in the RHS Music Program, participating in almost every aspect of the program. Dan’s participation includes performing with the RHS Concert Band, Marching Band and the Jazz Lab Band. Dan has been playing the trumpet since his 5th grade year at Ridge Elementary School and continues to study with a private instructor to further his musical abilities. In addition to all of his musical activities, Dan also participates on the RHS Swim team and was just recently named an Eagle Scout.

Jodi DiPiazza began improvising piano at age 4 and starting taking lessons at age 7.  In 2010 Jodi wrote and performed a song “Heroes of Autism” for Toys R Us to be used in conjunction with a fundraiser for Autism Speaks. This campaign raised over $3,000,000.   Jodi is a two time finalist in The ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Awards.  You may remember in October 2012 when Jodi performed a duet with Katy Perry for the autism benefit “The Night of Too Many Stars” at the Beacon Theatre in NYC, it was televised on Comedy Central and over $4,000,000 were raised for autism education.  Jodi is currently a 4th grade student at the Midland School in Rochelle Park and the Alpine Learning Group in Paramus NJ.

Almost One-Third of State Sheriffs’ Organizations Now Oppose Obama Gun Control

According to a recent Washington Examiner article, a total of 14 sheriffs’ associations now oppose President Obama’s proposed gun control measures.

The article notes that sheriffs’ associations in South Carolina, California and, most recently, Nevada, have joined thegrowing group of other state associations in demanding that Obama stop going after law-abiding gun owners and instead focus on improving the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.

“We have all seen what persons who have mental illness, who are users of illegal controlled substances, or are members of criminal gangs can do with weapons in their hands; any weapons, not just firearms.  As it currently stands, many of these individuals are not entered into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System for a whole variety of reasons.  This must be addressed at the national, state and local levels,” said the Nevada sheriffs.

“The sheriffs of the state of Nevada do not believe that the answer to this issue includes making criminals out of otherwise law-abiding individuals. As the old saying goes, ‘As guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.’ The answer lies within a myriad of approaches including education, addressing violence, keeping firearms out of the hands of the mentally ill, criminal gang members, and illegal controlled substance users, as well as prosecuting and incarcerating those who would use firearms to commit crimes.”

Our special Guest speakers: Joe Connor (a NJTPC MEMBER, ACTIVIST AND WRITER) & Mike Duncan will be our guest speakers where they will talk about how they brought the father of our country back to life in modern day America in their new book:The New Founders

Six unsuspecting Americans are drawn together in Philadelphia and while touring Independence Hall, encounter a mysterious man dressed in colonial garb who is none other than the first president himself. What follows is a crash course in U.S. history and a whirlwind tour of our nation’s capital after which George Washington is reintroduced to today’s world. With his newfound friends at his side, Washington evokes the spirit of the founders and explains how the principles that built this great nation need to be applied today in order to save it. Dick Morris wrote the foreword. Jerome Corsi, Brian Darling, Joe Farah, Dave Bossie and Tim Sumner provided endorsements.

Joseph F. Connor is a husband, father of two, son and brother. He has testified before the Senate Subcommittee on Foreign Relations regarding President Clinton’s 1999 clemency grant to 16 terrorist members who claimed his father’s murder, the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2009 during Eric Holder’s confirmation hearing and introduced The Pardon Attorney Reform and Integrity Act to Congress in 2000.

Having commuted though the WTC on 9/11/01, Connor eye-witnessed the attacks from his nearby office, losing his cousin among others. Mr. Connor led the successful 2011 effort to deny parole to the terror leader who refused the Clintons’ 1999 clemency grant.Joe’s articles have been published in the New York Post, Human Events, Los Angeles Times, Newsmax, National Review Online and The Wall Street Journal. He currently contributes to Breitbart.com (BigPeace) andRedstate.com.
