New Spending :Blame it on Ridgewood Voters

clock

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, many readers challenge the Ridgewood blog’s constant assertion that the Paul Aronsohn administration (ie… the three amigos) represented the low point in Village of Ridgewood history and the turning point from the Village being a very special place to a run of the mill New Jersey town.

Voters in New Jersey never like to admit their folly but the reality is this :

The election of Mayor Paul Aronsohn ushered in 4 high density housing developments in the Central Business District .

Let us spell out what did this mean for the Village , it means an enormous increase in the population of the CBD and the Village of Ridgewood . Which means; more investment in school construction , more construction of parking facilities , more construction of water infrastructure , more investment in roads and traffic signals , sewage and more investment in Police , Fire and Emergency services .

All this now very necessary spending will raise the costs (ie…taxes)and lower the quality of life in the Village .

Reader says ,”The senators were performing due diligence based upon the differences between a religious doctrine and existing law”

As a Catholic I think this is a bit of a stretch saying that the QUESTIONS asked were “anti-Catholic and bigoted comments”. The two senators were simply (and legitimately) asking judicial candidate Brian Buescher (a KofC member)about the differences between the KofC’s position on same sex marriage and abortion, and existing law if such a case were put before him. Buescher appropriately stated that the KofC’s position would have no influence on his decisions at all. The senators were performing due diligence based upon the differences between a religious doctrine and existing law. It’s no different than the questions posed to JFK when he was a candidate. The questioners were’nt bigoted or racist…simply asking the candidate if he had a conflict between law and doctrine.

Civility forum moves forward to squelch public dissent

Civility forum moves forward to squelch public dissent

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ed Koch  once said ,”If you agree with me on 9 out of 12 issues, vote for me. If you agree with me on 12 out of 12 issues, see a psychiatrist.”

But not according to Stephen Borg, Publisher and President, North Jersey Media Group, who insisted that the whole problem is that since people have found their voice through social media they have come to so many different opinions civil discourse has fallen .Things were so much better when North Jersey Media had a monopoly on public discussion and could always dictate terms .  Borg implied that elites like himself we the only ones qualified to make those decisions. Borg pointed out how this blog and its anonymous posters are the greatest enemy to not only American Democracy  but to the dominance of North Jersey Media Group. While I was rather flattered that the Publisher and President, North Jersey Media Group thought this blog shook the very foundations of civil discourse  and was viewed as the barbarians at the gate , I would suggest the far larger problem might be the totally bias, and slip shot reporting  of his Media Empire. Borg set the tone for the evening which came down silencing critics and reasserting the elitist “we know better  than you ” , so time to be quite .
unnamed-6
So the Mayor hosted his panel discussion on Civility in Public Discourse at Ridgewood Public Library on Tuesday . Panelists included Lynne Algrant, Councilwoman, Englewood Stephen Borg, Publisher / President, North Jersey Media Group Jacqueline Luthcke, Captain, Ridgewood Police Department Robert Sommer, Public Affairs Executive / Jersey City Official and the headliner James Tedesco, Bergen County Executive . The facilitator David Fine, Rabbi, Temple Israel and yes it did appear to be a Democrat love fest. The Councilwoman went a bit off script and focused on the idea that public servants have to set the standards an idea we can fully agree with , next came Mr Borg with a rousing  to the point ;its all about anonymous bloggers , the Ridgewood Police Captain gave a bit of confused speech about dealing with the public yet managing to stay on script and you guessed blame those mean and uncooperative anonymous bloggers ,to me she was most disappointing , because as a Police officer dealing with the public in often less than optimal settings her input on those situations would have been most instructive.  Robert Sommer from Jersey City , basically stuck to the script but added it was ok him to exaggerate the consequences of decisions , but its not ok for you , yes he said that .
All four also hit on “respect” and  “the benefit of the doubt” , humm the benefit of the doubt , well that lost me with the Village Hall renovation fiasco, $500, 000 golden toilets , turf fields in flood zones  and my personal favorite “Quartergate ” . As for respect  , respect has to be earned , and also given so thats simple . The headliner James Tedesco, Bergen County Executive spoke well touched on some of what the others said and surprise no comments on anonymous bloggers . Perhaps he came for a meet and greet or perhaps those same anonymous bloggers, supported his police merger plan long before he knew he had it.  In any case politics aside he made a good impression , and was clearly not the fabled Paramus hot head of yesteryear, speaking on how personal tragedy had giving him a softer world view.

New Jersey woman sues fellow soccer mom for ‘tarnishing’ family’s reputation
By Ben Rohrbach

A former Tiffany & Co. executive is suing a fellow New Jersey youth soccer mom for accusing her husband of “bullying,” “fixing tryouts” and “engaging in misconduct relating to sportsmanship” while coaching their 10-year-old children in Ridgewood, N.J., according to a lawsuit obtained by the New York Post.

Siobhan Winograd, who worked for Tiffany’s until her son’s birth in 2004, reportedly filed a lawsuit in New York’s Manhattan Supreme Court, accusing anonymous defendants “Ridgewood Soccer Mom” and “John Doe” of “tarnishing” her family’s reputation and inciting “public contempt” within the small community.

Winograd’s husband, Michael, is a lawyer who has served as both a coach and administrator for their son’s Maroons Soccer Club travel team, accoriding to The Bergen Record. The lawsuit claims harassment from the anonymous woman began in 2011 and reached a boiling in a January 2014 email from “ridgewoodsoccermom@gmail.com” to Michael Winograd’s employer.

“The situation stems from the ego (of Michael Winograd) and his belief that his needs trump the needs of the club,” the email read, according to the reports. The email also reportedly cited accusations of financial improprieties levied against the soccer club by Siobhan Winograd last year.

I Am Overwhelmed by 55 Million Babies Killed Since Roe v. Wade

by Kristan Hawkins | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com | 1/22/13 11:40 AM

What can I say that hasn’t already been said about today?

Yesterday evening, I was sitting in my living room working while watching my sons play. I began to think about what my life would have been without them. How different I would be. How their lives have already made this world a different place since they were born. How much I would hurt if I had chosen abortion.

Then, I thought of the more than 55,000,000 lives that have been taken in the U.S. since 1973, and I became overwhelmed at the tragedy. Tragedy for the babies, their mothers, their fathers, families, and us.

Who is our nation missing? What price is our society paying for the ultimate deceit of abortion?

40 years ago today, seven men on the Supreme Court decided in favor of a case presented to them from a 27 year-old, unknown, post-abortive lawyer, Sarah Weddington. That case was Roe v. Wadeand, along with its companion Doe v. Bolton, it legalized abortion in all 9 months of pregnancy, for any reason, in the United States.

Citing ‘complexity’ of case, judge grants ex-Bergen Democratic chief delay in corruption trial

The Record

Joseph A. Ferriero will have a year to prepare for his next federal corruption trial on charges of orchestrating a series of bribery, kickback and shakedown schemes during his reign as chairman of the Bergen County Democratic organization.

U.S. District Judge Ester Salas, sitting in Newark, signed an order Nov. 18 setting a new trial date of Oct. 14, 2014 for Ferriero’s racketeering case. The trial, estimated to take six weeks, had previously been tentatively scheduled for December.

Ferriero, 56, once among the state’s most powerful political leaders, was indicted on Sept. 11 on charges of running the affairs of the county’s Democratic organization through a pattern of racketeering activity. He also was charged with conspiring to promote bribery and distribute bribe proceeds and to commit mail and wire fraud; as well as with one count each of violating the Travel Act and the mail and wire fraud statutes.

The judge acted on a joint application by the office of U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman and Ferriero’s counsel, Michael Baldassare and Jennifer Mara, for an order declaring the matter to be a complex case.

Chanukah lights to shine in Ridgewood

Chanukah lights to shine in Ridgewood

This year, for the first time, a Chanukah menorah will be prominently displayed in the Village of Ridgewood, at the northwest end of Memorial Park at Van Neste Square on East Ridgewood Avenue.

According to Rabbi David J. Fine, religious leader of the town’s Temple Israel and Jewish Community Center, “while the question of a menorah on public land was a matter of some controversy in our community, the upshot is that the village is simply allowing the display, not putting up the display itself, and that we have been able to work with the wider Jewish community in Ridgewood in establishing what will hopefully be a tradition in bringing together our community in a newly imagined village.”

20131121_06-2

From left, Esther Zuckerman, Michele Opper, Rabbi David Fine, and Rabbi Elyse Frishman put the menorah together inside Temple Israel to make sure that it worked. It will be disassembled and then reassembled outside.

Rabbi Fine said that during the summer of 2012, Ridgewood Mayor Paul Aronsohn was approached by a group of Ridgewood residents who sought to have the menorah erected.
