VOTE TODAY : Special Primary Election for U.S. Senate Seat – Tuesday, August 13
The Special Senate Primary Election for U.S. Senator will take place on Tuesday, August 13, 2013. The polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the polling locations are the same ones used for all other elections.
Registered voters who have previously chosen a political party affiliation can vote in that political party’s primary. Those voters who have not declared their political party affiliation are permitted to vote in either party’s primary. The deadline to switch political party affiliation has already passed.
Anyone who thinks that Steve Lonegan will bring more federal funding back to NJ is sorely mistaken. Just as he’s done his entire political career, he will alienate himself and now the entire state down in Washington. When people think you’re crazy, you don’t get invited to “the party”.
……
True, The media, most notably The Record, has painted Steve Lonegan as an extremist when he is actually a libertarian-leaning fiscal conservative. Mayor Lonegan will not be able to single-handedly wrest more federal dollars from other states and direct them to NJ, but I believe he would fight to keep the number of dollars being taxed away by congress down. Cory Booker is a nice guy but Newark is still the dive it was when he replaced the corrupt Sharp James. Booker will probably win because of his bromance with Christie. Their aspirations are similar but their tacks are different.
Reader says The synthetic turf project was a travesty that we will be living with, and paying for, for decades.
That REAC report, its first major public document, was a tremendous disappointment, demonstrating that they were in the hands of the sports people and quickly eliminating any hope that the group would support and defend what it’s supposed to.
A referendum said, “No turf.”
The slide show presentation at the DEP hearing at the Ed Center was overwhelmingly against the synthetic turf, with ample scientific proof and other supportive research.
So of course we got the turf.
The synthetic turf project was a travesty that we will be living with, and paying for, for decades.
Is Valley Hospital eliciting Pro Expansion Posters?

Id say its better than average chance the anti-valley comments are from the same poster. Everyone I know in town (all long time residents) support some sort of valley expansion in order to remain viable and have been totally turned off by the anti valley crusade. I suppose the one way to find out is to put it up for a referendum and the popular vote will give you the answer, not some blog.
This is a Comcast Cable Communications Holdings, Inc IP . Comcast does not operate in North Jersey .
Just to get the Poster up to speed Valley has said “NO” to the idea of a referendum , because one would suspect they would lose .
The only people in town who favor this expansion are people with some direct financial interest in the hospital . Apparently your neighbors in Jersey City are alone in their support for Valley.
This is the same ill conceived plan that after a very long series of hearings by the previous Village Council was resoundingly rejected .
The augments made the second time around are even more ridiculous that the first time , and been a total embarrassment to both the hospital and the quality people who work there.
And finally the only reason for this fiasco to continue is because the hospital tried to bully and steam roll the Village in the first place instead of being a good neighbor and getting it done the right way .
So now all that’s left is a partisan politician trying to justify the expansion and looking for sizable donations for his next campaign for higher office
Bad plan .bad management , bad execution and a bad neighbor
Study: Children’s Poor Motor, Social Skills Linked To Too Much Television Watching
August 10, 2013 10:31 AM
ATLANTA, Ga. (CBS Atlanta) – The American Academy of Pediatrics recommend children aged two and older watch no more than two hours of television per day. They also recommend that children under two watch no television at all.
According to a new study, even one hour more a day can diminish a preschooler’s vocabulary and math skills as well as classroom attention.
“Every hourly increase in daily television watching from two and a half years old is also associated with bullying by classmates, and physical prowess at kindergarten,” Professor Linda Pagani of the University of Montreal and the CHU Sainte-Justine children’s hospital said in the study.
Reader says New Jersey keeps electing these democrats to represent the state giving us the lowest return on federal tax dollars in the country
New Jersey keeps electing these democrats to represent our state and for what? New Jersey has the lowest return on federal tax dollars sent in the entire nation.
Coming in as the biggest loser is New Jersey with a return of 61 cents per dollar sent.
Where was Frank Lautenberg representing New Jersey? With some of the highest taxes in the nation I would like to see at minimum a break even number. New Mexico gets $2.03 for every $1.00 sent, Mississippi $2.02 for every dollar and Alaska $1.84 for each dollar sent.
See for yourself the failure of the NJ democratic machine

Readers give advice on stopping unrequested newspapers in their driveways
It would be good, I think, if Ridgewood offered a permanent OPT OUT program that once homeowners sign up they will not have to be harassed by this trash anymore.
These are Advertisement Flyers being tossed. They’re not news papers. How can the Village Of Ridgewood website tell people those unrequested newspapers(?) are a ‘free speech issue’??
Call it what it is, Advertisement Flyers from Kmart, Sears, RiteAid, Verizon, The Record a form to subscribe to, ShopRite, plus others, etc. No papers. All these ad flyers used to be delivered by regular mail service weekly to your mailbox. a/k/a ‘junk mail’. They stopped coming, and instead now ‘junk’ Ad Flyers get tossed on your private property. An infringement on private property owners rights.
I believe Free speech flyers hand outs are only permitted/ allowed on public property, or if door to door, a solicitor permit required. If an organization wishes to solicit door to door in VOR, they need to apply for a permit. Did The Record apply for a solicitor permit for Advertisement Flyers to be tossed onto private residential properties?
Unwanted Newspapers – Information to End Delivery of Non Requested Newspapers
Residents have called Village Hall asking for a way to stop the unrequested newspapers in their driveways – we recommend resident personally contact the appropriate company at the phone number listed on the publication.
To contact The Record – call 888-473-2673; ask to be placed on the “Non Subscriber’s List”.
It may take a few calls to stop the delivery.
The Village of Ridgewood cannot regulate these deliveries as it is a “Freedom of Speech” issue.
Thank you for the phone number. I’ll try it.

Rep. Garrett Issues Statement on President Obama’s Housing Finance Speech
Aug 6, 2013
Ridgewood , NJ – Rep. Scott Garrett (R-NJ), Chairman of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government-Sponsored Enterprises, issued the following statement today after President Obama spoke in Arizona on housing finance reform.
“While I welcome today’s speech, it once again demonstrates President Obama’s inexcusable delay in addressing our nation’s biggest problems. For the past five years, the president has ignored the true causes of the financial crisis—the government’s misguided efforts at allocating credit through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The president’s failure to address the largest bailout in our history has only emboldened Washington bureaucrats to continue the federal government’s domination of the housing finance market. Americans deserve better.
“If the president is sincere about having private capital play more of a role in our housing finance system, the first thing he can do is stop his CFPB’s regulatory tsunami on private lenders. Specifically, he can halt the CFPB’s new so-called Qualified Mortgage Rule, the soon to be announced Risk-Retention Rule, the unconstitutional legal theory of Disparate Impact, and increased burdensome rules on community banks and credit unions.
“Next, he can embrace the policies that his administration has already advocated for by supporting the Protecting American Taxpayers and Homeowners (PATH) Act. With the recent passage of the PATH Act, the Financial Services Committee has taken the lead in protecting hard-working taxpayers and homebuyers from future Wall Street bailouts. We welcome President Obama’s support.
“It is time for the president to get off the campaign trail and get to work. Rather than making another speech several thousand miles from Washington, I invite the president to come to Capitol Hill, roll up his sleeves, and join House Republicans in working to create a sustainable housing finance system that never again puts American taxpayers on the hook for a big Wall Street bailout.”
Reader says the mayor like most others see the Valley Expansion as an over the top request
I really don’t see the see the mayor voting for this. He, like most others on the PB, see this over the top request for exactly what it is. It is not good for Ridgewood and any logical thinking person can certainly figure that out. Politics aside, in my mind he is logical.
As for the others, I don’t really know how you can recuse yourself from voting on a PB issue and then turn around and not recuse yourself from voting on the same issue at the Council level.
As for Ms. Hauck, well, let’s just say her inaction, as well some of the actions taken by others in her defense, have been amusing. If nothing else, it sure has made this whole thing more interesting.
Readers say Mr. Pucciarelli needs to quell growing concerns and announce to the public that he will keep his campaign promise and recuse himself on Valley
Mr. Pucciarelli needs to quell growing concerns and announce to the public that he will keep his campaign promise and recuse himself on Valley, not only at the Planning Board level, as he has done, but also on the Council level. Period.
Did anyone catch Mayor Aronsohns comment on Wednesday night about discussing all members of the council and the topic of recusal. A rumor has been going around that Pucciarelli is going to come out and vote on Valley. I think that was the first intro to the public that this is going to happen.
Cory Booker Makes scripted campaign visit to Ridgewood on Friday
August 9,2013

Ridgewood NJ, The Cory Booker for US Senate bus made a campaign visit to Ridgewood on Friday. The Newark Mayor and Democratic primary US Senate candidate was officially welcomed to Ridgewood by Mayor Paul Aronsohn and Aronshon’s son.
Campaign stops were made at Starbucks, Carousel Cupcakes, the Warner Quad Cinema, Sherwin Williams Paint, and the Doubletake consignment shop next to Starbucks.

PSE&G to continue installing higher poles in Ridgewood, despite complaints

RIDGEWOOD — A representative from the Public Service Electric and Gas Co. told the Village Council on Wednesday night that the controversial installation of 65-foot-tall utility poles on Hope Street and Spring Avenue would resume before the weekend.
David Hollenbeck, PSE&G’s regional public affairs manager, told the council that crews would return to Ridgewood on Friday to erect more poles.
A total of 78 poles — which PSE&G started installing four weeks ago — will go up. They are designed to handle up to 69,000 volts of electricity. The new poles will connect high-voltage lines from a Fair Lawn substation to one in Paramus.
State Department to keep some embassies closed, as lawmakers say terror threat ‘specific’ and ‘serious’
The State Department has announced that it will keep several embassies in the Middle East and Africa closed throughout the week “out of an abundance of caution” in the wake of terror threats that shut them down.
Posts in Abu Dhabi, Amman, Cairo, Riyadh, Dhahran, Jeddah, Doha, Dubai, Kuwait, Manama, Muscat, Sanaa, Tripoli, Antanarivo, Bujumbura, Djibouti, Khartoum, Kigali and Port Louis have been instructed to close for normal operations from Monday through Saturday, department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.
The State Department also said some of those embassies were already going to be closed in accordance with local customs marking the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
Those authorized to reopen Monday are in Dhaka, Algiers, Nouakchott, Kabul, Herat, Mazar el Sharif, Baghdad, Basrah and Erbil.
