Garrett Introduces PATH Act to Create Sustainable Housing Finance System

Garrett Introduces PATH Act to Create Sustainable Housing Finance System
Jul 23, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Scott Garrett (R-NJ), Chairman of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government-Sponsored Enterprises, issued the following statement today after introducing the Protecting American Taxpayers and Homeowners Act (PATH Act), H.R. 2767, a bill that would create a sustainable housing finance system.

“Approximately five years ago our nation was hit with an unprecedented financial crisis.  Today, I am pleased to be introducing legislation that continues the process of addressing the core cause of it—the government’s misguided efforts at allocating mortgage credit through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

“The federal government’s domination of the housing finance market has left taxpayers on the hook for $5.1 trillion in mortgage guarantees.  The PATH Act finally takes control away from Washington bureaucrats and allows the American people the freedom to have more choices in determining which mortgage best suits their needs.

“I want to thank Chairman Hensarling and my colleagues on the House Financial Services Committee for their continued leadership and assistance in reaching out to Members of Congress and industry stakeholders to help incorporate many of the ideas and suggestions that others had to offer.

“The PATH Act will finally end the largest bailout in history and will put our country back on a path to a sustainable housing finance market that benefits both taxpayers and homebuyers.  I urge its swift passage by Congress and look forward to it being signed by the President.”

NJ shore sees drop in beach revenue after Sandy
Saturday July 27, 2013, 12:47 PM
BY REMA RAHMAN
Associated Press

TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey may be “Stronger than the Storm,” as the state’s promotional jingle goes, but towns up and down the stretch of shore that took the biggest whack from Superstorm Sandy nine months ago are seeing declines in beach revenue despite racing to rebuild, the best they could, in time for tourist season.

The drop in the number of beachgoers is being blamed on a number of Sandy-related factors — early decision-making by some regulars to book trips elsewhere during this season of rebuilding, fewer available rental units, delayed beach openings and changes in the school calendar to make up for storm days.

But some resort towns say it was an old boogeyman that did them in: rain.

Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital : URINALYSIS: An Essential Piece of the Health Puzzle

Urine evaluation is a noninvasive, inexpensive, easy collection test. The veterinarians at Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital recommend submitting a urine sample for laboratory analysis for all dogs and cats every 6 months. Urine gives us a window into the kidney function, sugar regulation (diabetes), developing bladder crystals and stones, urinary tract infection, bladder tumors, metabolic/hormonal diseases (thyroid/adrenal), and protein losing diseases such as Lyme Disease and hypertension, which may not be apparent in the early stages when doctors can help the most. Wellness is aimed at prevention of disease and early detection.

During the months of July and August, with the help of our laboratory, we are able to discount the urinalysis service by 28%. Call a Client Care Representative today at 201-447-6000 to ask about this discounted service and how to best collect a urine sample. You can also ask about our pre-paid urinalysis kits. After the sample is collected, we send it to the laboratory, and then the doctor will review the laboratory results to formulate a health plan for your pet’s individual needs.

Obamacare Call Center Will Not Offer Healthcare Benefits to Employees

Obamacare Call Center Will Not Offer Healthcare Benefits to Employees
By  Eliana Johnson
July 26, 2013 6:27 PM

In order to ensure Americans understand how to access the benefits available to them when many provisions of the Affordable Care Act go online October 1, the Obama administration announced last month that it is setting up a call center that will be accessible to Americans 24 hours a day.

One branch of that call center will be located in California’s Contra Costa County, where, reportedly, 7,000 people applied for the 204 jobs. According to the Contra Costa Times, however, “about half the jobs are part-time, with no health benefits — a stinging disappointment to workers and local politicians who believed the positions would be full-time.” The county supervisor, Karen Mitchoff, called the hiring process “a comedy of errors” and said she “never dreamed [the jobs] would be part-time.”

Philanthropist David Bolger urges Council to drop the anti gift ordnance or pay the tickets

Philanthropist David Bolger urges Council to drop the anti gift ordnance or pay the tickets
July 23,2013
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, Seems another Ridgewood developer has issues with the $1000 fund raiser tickets the Village Council and Village manager received .

Philanthropist David Bolger thorugh his lawyer Tom Wells told the Village council to either drop the anti-gift ordinance or pay up.

Bolger though his son JT Bolger and a family run entity Two-Forty Associates  has had a rezoning application pending since June 2011 on the 52 unit Chestnut Village .
The Philanthropist is still smarting from the Village turning down his $250,000 gift to help renovate the Lester Stable.

While though his lawyer his assertion that no politician would ever be influenced by a gift is so bizarre that’s it’s comical. Suggesting that no politician has ever been successfully bribed again we defer. While  we admire his faith in humanity , we don’t hold politicians in the same high esteem.

While we do question the wisdom of turning down the a gift that the whole community could benefit from while on the other hand excepting a gift that was clearly meant to impress and intimidate elected officials and has a very limited benefit to anyone except for the party goers.

We do agree with Tom Wells that the anti gift ordinance however well intentioned was ill conceived and his boss David Bolger was the prime target of the ordinance.

Its seems Aronsohn and his minions didn’t get the memo that David Bolger is certainly someone to be reckoned with and the Bolger Foundation has contributed millions  to the Village and many non profits with in the Village over the years including Valley Hospital. Mr Bolger is not someone to be taken lightly or slighted in this way and we would bet this will not be the last we will hear on this subject .

Reader says no way to alter Village Master Plan without overwhelming the Village’s infrastructure

The fact is that our Council and Planning Board are considering changes in the Master Plan to accommodate special interests. Valley Hospital = Special Interest. Real Estate Developers = Special Interest.

When will our Village Planner, our Council and our Planning Board step up and show some vision and leadership at such a critical time?

There is no way that every special interest group with a plan before the town can get their way without overwhelming the Village’s infrastructure. I’m not suggesting that we build nothing in the CBD or that Valley not modernize at all – just build and expand within what’s outlined the existing (pre 2010) Master Plan.

Reader says New NJ Senate Bills gives PSEG diplomatic immunity

Point clearly not lost on this crowd. You wanna talk about a for-profit corporation “taking advantage”? Look at what “they” (no doubt PSE&G and their com-padre utilities have cooking up in Trenton right now.

Following excerpted from pending (NJ) Senate bill no. 2429:

“Any public utility… that clears, moves, cuts, or destroys any trees, shrubs, or plants for the purpose of erecting, installing, moving, removing, altering, protecting, or maintaining any structures or fixtures, necessary for the supply of electric lights, heat, or power, communication or cable television services upon any lands in which it has acquired an easement or right-of-way or upon a public right-of-way, shall not be required to receive the permission of a commission to undertake such work or be subject to any penalty imposed by a shade tree commission.”

Talk about diplomatic immunity…

Steve Lonegan Signs Climate Pledge, Challenges Opponents to Oppose Climate Related Taxes

Steve Lonegan Signs Climate Pledge, Challenges Opponents to Oppose Climate Related Taxes

“As our economy struggles to recover under President Obama’s heavy hand, the last thing we need is more regulations and taxes. A cap-and-trade tax would have a devastating effect on all New Jerseyans, and would hit our already struggling manufacturing sector especially hard.”

METUCHEN, NJ – Republican U.S. Senate candidate Steve Lonegan signed the Americans for Prosperity No Climate Tax Pledge, opposing any climate change legislation that includes a net increase in government revenue. Mayor Lonegan challenged Cory Booker and the other candidates in the race to sign the pledge and protect New Jersey taxpayers and businesses from hidden taxes.

The pledge simply states that Mayor Lonegan will “oppose any legislation relating to climate change that includes a net increase in government revenue.”

President Obama has pushed for a cap-and-trade tax that would make every energy-consuming activity automatically more expensive. The result of this tax will mean higher energy prices, fewer jobs and little to no demonstrable affect on our environment.

Several studies have demonstrated the harmful effects of a cap-and-trade program or carbon tax:

Cap-and-trade would cause gasoline prices to jump $1.73 per gallon by 2050 (Beacon Hill Institute)
A tax on emissions would increase domestic electricity prices by 12 percent, gasoline prices by 6 percent, natural gas prices by 43 percent, and coal prices by 110 percent (National Association of Manufacturers)
A carbon tax could result in 1.5 million lay-offs within the first year of a carbon tax alone and a 1 percent decrease in labor income (National Association of Manufacturers)
A $20/ton of carbon tax would sap $133 billion out of the economy each year over a 40-year period. (National Association of Manufacturers)

“I am proud to sign Americans for Prosperity’s No Climate Tax Pledge and challenge all my opponents to follow suit,” Mayor Lonegan said. “As our economy struggles to recover under President Obama’s heavy hand, the last thing we need is more regulations and taxes. A cap-and-trade tax would have a devastating effect on all New Jerseyans, and would hit our already struggling manufacturing sector especially hard.

“Last week Cory Booker introduced another plan filled with pricey taxpayer-funded giveaways – what he called his job plan. But if Cory Booker really wants to create jobs, the first thing he should do is to stop supporting policies that destroy jobs. Signing the No Climate Tax Pledge would be a good start.”

Congress Finally Decides NSA Surveillance Violates the Law

Congress Finally Decides NSA Surveillance Violates the Law

Congress has finally decided that massive, unprecedented and unwarranted surveillance of the American people conducted by the National Security Agency is against the law.

Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which has broad jurisdiction over matters related to federal criminal law, arrived at the conclusion months after the American people reached a similar conclusion.

“We never, at any point in this debate, have approved the type of unchecked, sweeping surveillance of United States citizens employed by our government,” said House fixture John Conyers, a Michigan Democrat, during a hearing on the NSA. “If the government cannot provide a clear, public explanation for how its program is consistent with the statute, it must stop collecting this information immediately.”

Other committee members have promised to amend the unconstitutional PATRIOT Act and force the NSA to stop its surveillance. Representative Jim Sensenbrenner, a Wisconsin Republican and author of the original PATRIOT Act, said it is not likely Congress will reauthorize the business-records collection provision of the act when the law expires in 2015.

Readers says The public needs to know that the mayor interfered with a letter to the editor.

Reading_theridgewood_news_theridgewoodblog.net

Readers says The public needs to know that the mayor interfered with a letter to the editor.

The way I understand the story, the mayor asked Ms. MacNamara to either correct her letter or have it stopped. He did so before the start of a council meeting. She declined. Then he supposedly contacted someone at the Ridgewood News about factual inaccuracies in the letter. The letter was pulled from that week’s paper, but then the editor (who had been out of town) offered to Ms. MacNamara to print it exactly as it was written the following week. She declined that offer because by then the context of the letter would have been outdated.

The letter was quite benign. We all read it here on the blog. What was the big deal? The big deal was that our mayor evidently felt it cast him in a negative light regarding the Extel mess, and Aronsohn had already taken a great deal of heat for attacking Tom Riche so publicly.

It is 100% wrong for him to have interfered in this way. It may not have been illegal for Aronsohn to make that call (or visit), and the paper is always within its rights to publish whatever it wants to publish…..but COME ON. The public needs to know that the mayor interfered with a letter to the editor. This was not a news story. It was a letter to the editor. It is despicable and unprofessional and is yet another miserable slip in his downward slide.

I hope and trust that The Ridgewood News will come clean on this once and for all and will expose our mayor’s actions.

Readers Respond to the President race-baiting or Eloquent Compassion

The President doubled-down on his ‘My (fictional) son could have been Trayvon’ to ‘I WAS Trayvon 35 years ago’. His parties in the “choom wagon” from his mis-spent youth must have given him this idea. He further degraded the office with race-baiting and wagging his bony finger.

While we have come to expect charlatans like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, I’d never expect the President to comment on the verdict of a trial as well as playing the race card. This man further embarrasses our country and the office he holds. We got exactly who the majority we voted for: a man clearly not ready for the huge responsibility and decorum for the office.

You are so wrong …

President Obama was not playing a race card. He was explaining honestly, to those who would listen with an open mind, the facts about racism as it exists in the country. He also offered some positive suggestions to help our country eventually move away from this. Black mothers and fathers spend their lives worrying that their sons will be shot. This is an ongoing nightmare for them, and sadly it is a reality in many cases.

Thank God we have an eloquent, compassionate man in office who is clearly up to the huge responsibility of the Office of President, and who has more decorum than several previous presidents. He is truly a class act.
