Study: 70 Percent Of Americans On Prescription Drugs
June 19, 2013 12:59 PM
Rochester, Minn. (CBS ATLANTA) – Researchers find that nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug, and more than half receive at least two prescriptions.
Mayo Clinic researchers report that antibiotics, antidepressants and painkiller opioids are the most common prescriptions given to Americans. Twenty percent of U.S. patients were also found to be on five or more prescription medications.
The study is uncovering valuable information to the researchers about U.S. prescription practices.

In many Readers Minds Questions remain about TWA flight 800
I couldn’t believe the NBC Today show actually dug up retired local FBI head James Calstrohm from the crypt this morning (Thursday, 6/20/2013) to defend his indefensible 1996 investigation. He appeared immediately after a credible and well-informed critic of his investigation who called Calstrohm out by name. In response, Calstrohm was his usual condescending, oafish self, indiscriminately insulting anyone who would dare to question the FBI’s investigation or its foolish conclusions.
The thing I remember most about Calstrohm from the months after the TWA flight 800 accident were these three words that he uttered in anger and frustration to a caller to Bob Grant’s radio program on ABC (who was complaining loudly to Bob about the utter garbage the US government was trying to fob off on us at to the cause of this accident): “Get a Life!”.
At the time the TWA flight 800 investigation was thrust in Calstrohm’s lap in the summer of 1996, all Calstrohm had been planning to do was retire quietly from the FBI. The fact that he was forced to carry Clinton’s water to prevent him from going down in flames in his re-election bid was clearly chapping Calstrohm’s a$$. Of course, my heart bled for him as I dutifully played the worlds smallest violin.
This event (the corrupt TWA flight 800 investigation) demonstrated to all who had eyes to see and ears to hear that the US government was ready, willing, and able to lie to its people in a big way. Since Clinton’s successful re-election bid, the lies have only been getting bigger, and the damage they cause, more and more calamitous. When are the American people going to finally stand up and effectively defend their country against these depredations?
This was a proven design. The accident happenned in 1996. THese planes were originally flown commercially around 1970. This was 26 years and a few million flight hours on hundreds of planes later. There is NO WAY there is a problem with the fuel tanks. It was an easy ‘out’ to close the case. As a pilot, I never believed this as a cause and always believed it to be a bomb or a missle.
Don’t forget, this happened just months before Bill Clinton’s presidential re-election. Do you think a Clinton would try to cover something up? And witnesses claimed at the time that they saw the arc of a missile.

CRR looks to Bring in own Urban planner representing residents
Dear Friend and CRR supporter,
CRR has asked for the opportunity to make a presentation before the Planning Board. While the negatives of Valley Hospital’s plan seem so obvious to you and me, this case cannot be made or won on emotion or common sense. This is a Municipal Land Use issue and we must stick to the facts if we are to stop this over-expansion.
We have sought out the advice of both Municipal Land Use attorneys and the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University, concluding that we must hire and pay for an urban planner to provide our Planning Board with the sound land use arguments to be able to reject the current Valley Hospital proposal.
We need to hire and pay for this planner by this Friday or the Planning Board will not allow us to make a presentation!
To that end, we have engaged the most highly qualified urban planner in our area – THE guy for representing residents facing overdevelopment in their community. However, THE guy, comes with a price – an estimated $10,000 for his professional services to research, create a presentation and address the Planning Board. We have already received a $1000 donation pledge, so we are looking to raise another $9000 before Friday afternoon.
So please, if there was ever a time for you to make a difference with your donation, it is now. If we do not raise this money in the next 48 hours, we will lose the opportunity to present our case before the Planning Board.
You can drop a check in my mailbox at 449 Beverly Rd, call me to pick up your donation or logon to https://www.stopvalley.com and make a paypal donation NOW!
Thank you! ~ marla
P.S. Please pass this message along to anyone you know who supports our efforts to stop the overdevelopment of Valley Hospital.
Reader says We all know what Mrs. Hauck thinks its what the Planning Board thinks that counts
It’s certainly unfortunate for those that oppose the expansion that she is in the position she is in, but that is really “water over the dam.” At least at this point the bigger issue seems to be what the PB members think rather than what everyone else in Ridgewood already knows what Mrs. Hauck thinks.
I’m not saying she should not recuse herself, that would certainly be the ethical thing to do, but the focus should really be on making the case that this expansion is not in the best interests of the majority of residents, primarily because it is not.
The bottom line is that the request is far to large for the property it is on. My bet is that the folks on the PB see that and act on it before Mrs. Hauck can have anything to say about it.
Reader says its not just Valley ,the larger Issue is all the Development
The larger issue here is not just the Hospital but all of the other development that this Council will weigh in on.
In addition to Mrs. Hauck’s well documented affiliation with Valley, we’ve already had the Mayor and Mr. Pucciarelli caught meeting privately with developers to discuss apartment complexes and parking facilities in the CBD.
The Aronsohn/Pucciarelli/Hacuk ticket seems to have an arrangement of reciprocal support on each of their own pet projects. Unless the people organize to demand objective consideration to what’s best for Village, these 3 will get their way. People should be going to as many meetings on each of these issues as possible to make their opinion known.
Michael Reagan: Father’s Day Message, we need all the good dads we can get
It’s no news to anyone that I disagree strongly with President Obama on just about any issue or policy position you can name.
But I’m not the least bit uncomfortable saying I admire something about the president that transcends politics and makes him a role model for every man in America.
President Obama is a good father.
That’s no small thing in 2013 America. And not too long ago in Dallas I told the president exactly that.
The event was a small “meet-and-greet” coffee for first family members held before the dedication of the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum.
My wife, daughter and I represented the Reagan family at the private event, which included the Johnson daughters, Trish Nixon, Susan Ford, along with presidents Obama, Bush 41 and 43, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.
“I disagree with your policies,” I said, after saying hello and shaking the president’s hand. “But I applaud you for being a good father and a good husband. The world needs more of those.”
Knowing how to read dog body language is a vital part of communicating with dogs, and an important step in keeping both people and dogs safe. Misinterpreted cues can lead to a dog becoming stressed or overly excited which often leads to a dog who feels he has no choice but to bite. The goal of this workshop is to help you avoid saying “I had no idea that dog was going to bite!” With the use of video and live demonstrations you’ll learn how to tell the difference between a dog who is having a good time, one who is tolerating interactions and one who has had enough and is about to bite. Canine and human volunteers will demonstrate how to use your own body language to create a non–threatening interaction with a dog you’re meeting for the first time.
Who Should Attend This Workshop?
Pet Dog Owners –
Understanding your dog’s body signals is a big part of knowing what your dog is thinking and feeling. When you can “read” your dog quickly, you can help interactions with people and other dogs go in a positive direction. It’s important for you to know when your dog is having a great time and when he feels it’s “time to leave the party”.
Parents And Children –
Whether you own a dog or not, parents fear their children may one day be bitten by a dog. Learning how to recognize the signals a dog gives before a bite will keep you and your children safe. Even young children can learn the proper way to approach a dog, interpret what their body is saying and respond appropriately. Quick and easy tips will make it easy to quiz your children when interacting with dogs.
People Who Don’t Own A Dog –
If you’ve ever been approached by a dog and wondered if they wanted to be patted on the head or left alone this workshop is for you. Even if you have never owned a dog, you’ll find that the canine language is a puzzle you can easily put together once you understand the pieces.
Please leave your dog at home, but do bring the whole family to learn more about the way dogs use their bodies to communicate.
Obama’s Snooping Excludes Mosques, Missed Boston Bombers

Homeland Insecurity: The White House assures that tracking our every phone call and keystroke is to stop terrorists, and yet it won’t snoop in mosques, where the terrorists are.
That’s right, the government’s sweeping surveillance of our most private communications excludes the jihad factories where homegrown terrorists are radicalized.
Since October 2011, mosques have been off-limits to FBI agents. No more surveillance or undercover string operations without high-level approval from a special oversight body at the Justice Department dubbed the Sensitive Operations Review Committee.
Who makes up this body, and how do they decide requests? Nobody knows; the names of the chairman, members and staff are kept secret.
We do know the panel was set up under pressure from Islamist groups who complained about FBI stings at mosques. Just months before the panel’s formation, the Council on American-Islamic Relations teamed up with the ACLU to sue the FBI for allegedly violating the civil rights of Muslims in Los Angeles by hiring an undercover agent to infiltrate and monitor mosques there.

Santa Monica suspect was 23-year-old ex-student John Zawahri
LOS ANGELES Police identified the suspect in the Santa Monica shooting that killed five others as a 23-year-old who would have turned 24 on Saturday.
Authorities announced Sunday that the suspect, John Zawahri, and his brother were enrolled at Santa Monica College as early as 2010. Zawahri, who was first identified late Saturday, was killed by police during the gunfight. The shooting began at his father’s house and ended at the college.
Santa Monica Police Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks said the suspected gunman had contact with law enforcement in 2006.
“However, because the individual was a juvenile at the time, I’m not at liberty to discuss circumstances of that contract,” she said.
Marcela Franco, 26, died of her injuries at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center Sunday, according to Santa Monica College spokeswoman Tricia Ramos, bringing the victim death toll to five..
Franco had been a passenger in a Ford Explorer driven by her father, campus groundskeeper Carlos Navarro Franco, 68, who also was killed in Friday’s attack.
Investigators trying to determine why the gunman planned the shooting spree were focusing on a deadly act of domestic violence that touched off the mayhem.
The heavily armed man’s attack against his own family led to the violence in Santa Monica streets, lasting just a matter of minutes until he was shot to death in a chaotic scene at the college library by police.
