East Coast Burger : A long overdue positive revue
April 23,2013
Ridgewood NJ, I tried East Coast Burger on their opening week and as the owners have readily admitted, it was a bit of a disaster. I vowed never to go back. Much has changed since I gave them a second chance.
They had a lot to sort out as most new businesses do…and sort it out they have. My wife has since declared it the best burger she’s had – we’ve had so many that when I call in an order now they know who I am and finish the order for me!
The owners are great guys and always so welcoming and friendly (one of the guys even gave me a bag of frozen ghost chilis from his personal stash after discussing my love of super hot peppers).
That leads to the next point, these guys are a local business and they are running it. They are there all the time and care deeply about their product and their customers. I wish ECB was everywhere because the burgers are incredible…not the greasy mess of five guys (although those are delicious too). These guys are the type of people our town should support…homegrown family business – not the atrocities being proposed by village hall like mcdonalds, etc…gross. Ridgewood needs more businesses like this. We would be a better town for it. I just wish I had the nerve (and the time) to try to build something like these two have.
Saudi National Questioned in Boston Attack was on Terror Watch List
Todd Starnes
The Saudi national who was initially detained and then ruled out as a suspect in the Boston Marathon terrorist attack had been flagged on a terror watch list and was granted a student visa without being properly vetted, sources have told me.
A source close to the investigation revealed that the Saudi national had been deemed inadmissible under the section of the Immigration and Nationality Act which declares ineligible for a visa – any alien who is engaged in or is likely to engage after entry – in terrorist activity.
At least two additional sources have confirmed to me that the Saudi national is set to be deported as early as this week, contrary to statements made by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.
The House Homeland Security Committee is now requesting a classified briefing with Napolitano to get to the bottom of the issue, according to an exclusive report from The Blaze.
Napolitano denied anyone was being deported in a heated exchange Thursday with Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) during a House hearing.
Gun Control Group host rally in Ridgewood , invites stereo typing and criticism
April 22,2013
the staff of the Ridgewood blog
Ridgewood NJ, Proponents of gun control came to the Christ Episcopal Church in Ridgewood Sunday night ,in an event was called the “Stand up for Gun Sanity” , organized by the Bergen County Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence asking supporters to lobby their legislators to support a package of bills that would make New Jersey’s gun laws even more strict.
The Bergen County Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence was formed in response to the shooting in Newtown, Conn., to promote gun control legislation in New Jersey.
The event featured many prominent Democratic politicians including Rep. Bill Pascrell, Senate majority leader Loretta Weinberg and Sen. Robert Gordon.
While we applaud the noble goals of the coalition, the holding an anti gun violence event in low gun violence Ridgewood seemed to invite all the stereo type criticism being leveled at these groups across the country .
Why is it that it took the killing of a bunch of “white” kids in suburbia to get politicians all geared up for gun control when the simply facts are according to the Children’s Defense Fund “The top cause of death for black teens ages 15 to 19 was gun homicide and most of these homicides are gang related.Noon of the proposed legislation does anything to thwart gang violence or even address it.
Rep. Bill Pascrell should be keenly aware of this given the neighborhood he claims to represent . So why did it take the killing of dare we say “rich white kids” , for him to step up? We would suggest looking for wealthy campaign donors may have played a factor .
The next major significant criticism is that Connecticut already has some of the strictest gun laws in the country and none of the proposed changes would have stopped the events in Newtown. Looks at Chicago with some of the strictest gun laws on the books having over 5,000 people killed due to gun violence.
Bad news for politicians is according to a recent Gallup Poll only 4% of Americans think gun control is the most Important Issue , The issue for most Americans , not politicians and media is the ECONOMY .
Readers say Bigger trucks, more damage to infrastructure, more problems
The cubic yards being hauled vs. the weight of the vehicles was/is a joke. Any fifth grader in the audience could have figured that out. Really nothing more than insulting the intelligence of the PB, and those opposed to this project.(Actually, even if you are for it you had to at least say to yourself : Does this guy really believe these people are going to buy this? )
The point on the size of the trucks was that you can reduce number of truck trips by using larger trucks (15cy vs. 10cy is already a 33% reduction) and 15cy trucks weigh a heck of a lot more than 10cy trucks and my cause more impact to the road surface and underlying infrastructure.
Most earth moving trucks in No. NJ are 10 cy. I’d question the availability of the 15cy trucks just to begin with. Vallay says there going to use 15cy trucks but what stops their contractor from using 10 cy trucks (which are more readily available) and which INCREASE the number of truck trips 33%??
I’m just sayin’
I agree, but the emphasis was being put on the cubic yards and the reduction in trips when it should have been the weight and the number of trips. Bigger trucks, more problems.
We are on the same page. I just hope the PB is…
agree completely. Bigger trucks, more damage to infrastructure, can’t see kids, etc.
Let’s keep pointing out the flaws in Valley plan and maybe we will prevail.
Reader have serious issues with Valley Engineers testimony
I have many years experience in the construction business and sat through the meeting the other night. What I would like to have asked Mr. Gouda is if he has ever heard of human error? Such as errors in explosive loading (too much!)? Terrential rains that cause wall collapses? etc?
Does Mr. Gouda realize that assuming nearby homes, particularly their foundations, were built to current NJ Uniform Construction Codes is probably wrong? Many of the homes in the neighborhood are well over 100 year old and their foundations may not be concrete, etc. with the strength is assuming.
Mr. Gouda may have thought it funny to say the Village would make a nice profit if they pumped groundwater into the sanitary sewer system but I was left thinking . . . “Since Valley is non-profit, do the actually pay if this were to happen?”
And what happens in high flow periods, when the sewage treatment facility is already on overflow?
One of my favorite statements of the night . . . “Rock will be removed by an appropriate method. That will be up to the contractore”. Really? How can I make an informed decision about this project without knowing any specifics. I should just take Valley’s word for it?
Another issue – does anyone know if the original proposal which would have resulted in 22,000 truck trips (for Phase 1) used 10 cubic yard trucks or 15 cubic yard trucks? Did they reduce the truck trips by increasing the size of the trucks? 15 cubic yard trucks are enormous.
If the sand/gravel to be removed has 10 – 12% fines (silts), then it has some significant % moisture which means it has some real weight to it. Can our roads take a 15 cy dump truck loaded with wettish silty sand? What will be the cost to our infrastructure? Will roads need to be resurfaced? Will gas lines be shifted? etc.
Mr. Gouda laughed off the notion of harmonic frequency and liquifaction . . . how but just addressing these potentially significant issue instead????
And although the amount of rock to be removed is small, it will involve blasting. The notion that overlaying soils/sediment will “dampen the impact” is to a certain degree flawed. A blast creates a certain amount of energy that energy has to go somewhere. It disperses into the surrounding soild provided those soils are completely homogeneous. Otherwise, it goes along the path of least resistance. If any of the near-site soils are stratified, there will not be equal dissipation of energy.
And I think there needs to be ALOT more information on the underground injection wells that would be proposed. One resident expressed concern about habitual flooding down near Sollas Court and ground water infiltration. Will shallow underground injection of the construction wastewater exacerbate this problem. Certainly it seems that groundwater intrusion will be increased in lower lying homes and basements.
Reader asks what if the Valley expansion goes through and Valley shuts its’ doors a few years later just like Pascack did.
I attended my first Valley meeting the other night and two things really struck me between the eyes: 1.) the utter contempt Valley has for the neighbors and the Village, in general and. 2.) the assumption of Valley that this is a done deal. Theyseem to see the proceedings as an annoying formality.
I cannot fathom how anyone could make a decision, going forward, on this project as there are no specifics on Phase 1 and no details at all on Phase 2. To approve Phase 1 without knowing what Phase 2 is is shortsighted and dangerous.
And I was left wondering, what if the Valley expansion goes through and Valley shuts its’ doors a few years later just like Pascack did. We are left with a monstrosity that has forever changed our Village with none of the benefits Valley tells us this will give us. I can’t see any benefit to the Village from this.
Its funny that we may never know the exact reason why the Boston bombings took place. One suspect is dead and the other is critically injured in hospital with severe injuries to his neck and “tongue.” His ability to talk maybe infringed upon because of the injuries that he suffered. The police are saying that the injuries to the suspect may have been self inflicted in an attempt to commit suicide.
Meanwhile, the people of Boston have been placed under an illusion of safety – that everything is ok now as we caught the bombers but if you look at the facts around this case, things just don’t add up.
Five years ago, the Russian government requested assistance from the FBI to locate and question the eldest brother, who was shot dead on Friday morning. The FSB (Russian Intelligence Services) made this request because it suspected that Tamerlan Tsarnaev had connections to Islamic Chechen terrorists, who have been fighting Russian forces since 1991. These are the guys responsible for the Beslan school hostage crisis in 2004 in which 380 people (adults and children) where murdered after a three day siege when Chechen terrorists took close to 1200 people (770 children) hostage.
So here are my first questions:
1. Why would two guys of Chechen background, attack anything in the US?
a. The Chechen-based terrorist spokes people have stated that they have no issues with the US – they only have issues with the Russian Federation.
2. If these guys did not commit the bombings on behalf of the Chechen terrorists, but did so as part of an Al-Qaeda –planned attach, why did they not commit suicide, i.e. blow themselves up? They would have known that they would be caught – they were intelligent people, by all accounts. I mean, if you look at all the crazy Islamic terrorist attacks aimed against the West and those countries that support the US, you will notice that the fact that these were not suicide bombings are a little bizarre. For example, New York/DC (2001), Madrid (2004), London (2005) and countless others in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Every bombing carried out with an Al Qaeda connection has been a suicide bombing – why not these two?
a. Now, the police chief in Boston has “Speculated” that these two guys were going to carry out more bombings because of the devices that were found at the scene of the shootout in which Tamerian Tsarnaev was killed. Are there confirmed, third party, reports that such devices were found and if so, by whom?
3. Why, if the FSB in Moscow did request FBI assistance in locating and questioning Tamerian Tsarnaev five years ago, was he granted permission to enter Russia and why was he not arrested upon arrival in Moscow last year while in transit to visit his home state of Dagestan?
4. If the FBI had been given the heads up about the suspected ties that Tarnerian Tsarnaev had with suspected Chechen terrorists, why, upon his arrival back in the US was he not quizzed further about his whereabouts and activities in Russia where he stayed for six months?
a. Why was his residency status in the US not revoked?
5. Why, as his mother stated to a Russian news outlet, if the FBI were tracking Tarnerian Tsarnaev’s every move did they not know what he was planning, if he actually did plan the Boston bombing or if he was just a pawn?
So, as we are led to believe, everything is fine in Boston and everything is returning to normal across the US – no need to worry, we got the guys responsible for the Boston bombing. Or did we?
The reports are now filtering through that there is a sleeper cell, consisting of 12 people that the FBI are now hunting. A sleeper cell? That is a little drastic – I mean, come on, one minute the people are being told, “great, the city is clear, everybody can relax, go to Fenway and watch the Red Sox, etc.” now they are being told, “hey, we are looking for another 12 people blah blah blah!!!” I think this is creating a situation whereby anybody that looks or speaks different in Boston will be reported to the police. Anybody that speaks Russian will definitely be reported to the police – all this will give the police an excuse to close the city – lock people in their homes, places of work, anywhere – and for what purpose?
The lock down happened very fast – what happens when a lock down is ordered again and then again and then again until the government states that it is highly likely that the city of Boston will remain in constant lockdown – what city will be next?
We have had critics of the US government come out this week stating that the government has lost the plot when it comes to keeping the US safe – which the president has stated that the authorities are very close to bringing down Al Qaeda. The simple response to this is BOLLIX!!!!
We are constantly told that the leadership of Al Qaeda is on the brink? But who are the leadership and if they are that close to the brink, why are they not being pushed over already?
The simple answer is the fact that no-body knows what to do. How many experts have been brought on discuss all these issues so that the American people can be informed?
Every US channel has experts in all facets of experience when it comes to fighting Al Qaeda. Or do they – Dr. Jo Schmo, Director of foreign blah blah balh at Georgetown University and Dr. Bitch on Wheels, Professor of steering shit at Harvard are here to discuss the latest…” The American people are listening to these idiots as if they know what the hell is going on, but most of all, as if they have a clue what they are talking about. The truth is they don’t and everything they say comes from the US authorities. “Hey, this is what we want you to say on Fox, NBC, CBS, etc.” We want the world to know that we are on top of the situation. THEY ARE NOT and this builds another case to ask – why in his most recent State of the Union Address, did President Obama declare that:
“I am “confident” of achieving “our objective of defeating the core of al-Qaeda”. Although I acknowledged the need to pursue the “remnants” of the terrorist group and its affiliates, the overall message is clear – al-Qaeda was badly degraded, the tides of war were receding and the US was winning this fight that was no longer even officially a war.”
Who in the name of God is advising the President of the United States on this stuff???? Defeating the core of Al-Qaeda??? Do they even know what that means??? Do they understand what Al-Qaeda is??? Obviously not by the sound of things.
What most people don’t know is the fact that it was the US that gave Al-Qaeda its name. When the Afghan mujahedeen were fighting to expel the Soviet troops, the US government supplied the mujahedeen with weapons and money. The weapons were sent to the mujahedeen’s key base at Al Farouq through Pakistan– as the literal translation in Arabic from English for base is Al-Qaeda, the use of the name became common amongst CIA operatives in the area, and hence Al-Qaeda was born. It was here that the key weaponry was sent and the money was filtered through Pakistan. All this was done under the CIA’s code name Operation Cyclone.
It is known that the millions of dollars that the US government secured for use in Afghanistan were tunneled to Al Qaeda by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, whom Pakistan believed was their man in Afghanistan. The funding of the mujahedeen was initially approved by President Carter and then President Regan intensified CIA involvement. The CIA would later claim that at no stage was Al-Qaeda been funded by the US – but what was Al-Qaeda, only the base headquarters of the mujahedeen. The CIA claimed that they funded local rebel groups – but these were groups that, after the withdrawal of the last Soviet troops in 1988 went on to form the Taliban. It was Pakistani Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto that informed President George HW Bush, upon his election as President, that the US was creating a Frankenstein in Afghanistan.
And so we had, as early as the late 1980’s the development of what we now know today as Al Qaeda, a well-financed, global terror group that would become the McDonalds of the world of terrorism. It was franchised out across the world to grow the ideals and teachings of Islam, under the guise of Sunni Muslim teachings. While its global leadership and financing were headed by Osama Bin Laden, its operational procedure was based on centralized leadership and financing and decentralized operations which meant that groups in various parts of the world did not need approval from the snakes head to wiggle its tail.
Hence what President Obama said in his state of the union address pertaining to “being “confident” of achieving “our objective of defeating the core of al-Qaeda”. Bin Laden is dead – the key players are dead or in prison so how are they still able to carry out the murderous acts that they continue to commit?
The US and its allies supported the over throw of Colonel Quaddiffi in 2012. They financed the insurgents in Libya – it was the very same insurgents that killed the US ambassador in October 2012 but only now are they being called terrorists – why? They were not terrorists when they over threw Quaddaffi and hunted him and his family down. No, they were key players in making Libya a more stable democratic country (BULLSHIT). But the US and its allies have also supported the insurgents in Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt and now in Syria – but who are the insurgents??? They are Al Qaeda backed groups that have the most extremist Islamic beliefs drawn from Wahhabism, Shafi’ism, Malikism and Hanafism. Nobody can imagine what the Middle East will look like in 20 years’ time should Syria collapse, followed by Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, etc.
The dangers posed to the US are huge – and in the strategy map of Al Qaeda its plan is working – Al Qaeda planned for the US to invest its military in numerous wars in the Middle East so that it would go broke by 2020 because it could not continue to support these wars – the US dollar would crumble and the population of the US would be crying out because the country had fallen apart – no jobs, inflation out the window, just a nightmare situation.
It is up to the great people of the US not to accept the word of the government or the law enforcement agencies anymore – they will continue to tell lie after lie after lie. It all started with Iraq and WMDs – billions of dollars and thousands of lives lost – there were no WMDs in Iraq and the government knew that before it invaded the country and committed the people of the US to years of hell.
Don’t accept the “official” line about Boston as it is much too serious to. Questions need to asked and answered and if we act like sheep and follow the official line, then we will be slaughtered like sheep and believe me, nobody wants that to happen.
Boston bombs: Obama lulled America into false confidence over terror threat
The war on terror cannot be fought at an arm’s length – and the attacks on Boston have brought uncertainty back to American streets, writes Peter Foster.
By Peter Foster, US Editor
10:59PM BST 19 Apr 2013
In his State of the Union address to the American people earlier this year, Barack Obama declared that he was “confident” of achieving “our objective of defeating the core of al-Qaeda”.
Although he acknowledged the need to pursue the “remnants” of the terrorist group and its affiliates, the overall message was clear – al-Qaeda was badly degraded, the tides of war were receding and the US was winning this fight that was no longer even officially a war.
The Boston bombings would appear to present a fundamental challenge to that assessment and once again bring the nagging uncertainty of terrorism back on to the American main street.
It is too soon to be absolutely sure the attacks were motivated by jihadist ideology, but the Islamic videos on the website of the older of the two Tsarnaev brothers point very firmly in that direction.
They bring home the complexity of the global Islamist threat and the fact that it cannot be confined to wars in distant lands, or fought at arm’s length using drones, as the Obama administration has quietly yet insistently led America to believe.
FBI interviewed dead Boston bombing suspect years ago
The FBI admitted Friday they interviewed the now-deceased Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev two years ago and failed to find any incriminating information about him.
As first reported by CBS News correspondent Bob Orr, the FBI interviewed Tsarnaev, the elder brother of at-large bombing suspect Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, at the request of a foreign government to see if he had any extremist ties, but failed to find any linkage.
Both Tsarnaev brothers were legal permanent residents of the U.S. There is no evidence so far that either brother received any tactical training.
CBS News correspondent John Miller reports it is likely Russia asked to have the elder Tsarnaev vetted because of suspected ties to Chechen extremists.

Other town install bike racks Ridgewood looks to write tickets

Ridgewood NJ , While other towns like Glen Ridge add bike racks Ridgewood looks to write tickets . So much for going green .
The borough(of Glen Ridge ) is looking into the prospect of installing some new bike racks around town, with special attention to the center of the borough, near Ridgewood Avenue School. https://www.northjersey.com/news/203528651_New_bike_racks_may_soon_appear_around_Glen_Ridge.html )
The Village seems dead set on limited the amount of bicycle traffic in the Central Business District . Critics view this as just another case of we wont do it because it dose not cost enough ., however one would suspect that if the Village could figure out how to spend upwards of $50,000 ,on bike racks it would be done. Other think this is a non issue ,whith some weel connected friend of the council making a fuss.
The Bergen Record is reporting that The village council is expected to continue discussion on a proposed ordinance that would give police the authority to remove bicycles that are blocking public rights-of-way.( https://www.northjersey.com/news/203727531_Ridgewood_considers_bicycle_removal_ordinance_removal_ordinance_considered.html )
The whole issue if there is one , looks to many like another excuse to write tickets , especially given the recent spat over “wall building” by merchants in the CBD.

BEWARE OF POSSIBLE FRAUD ASSOCIATED WITH THE BOSTON MARATHON EXPLOSIONS
On 04/15/2013, two explosions occurred near the finish line of the Boston Marathon causing death and injury to spectators, as well as participants of the marathon. While Americans feel the need to assist or contribute to those affected by this tragedy; criminals see it as way to exploit contributor’s kindness. History has shown criminals utilize disasters to take advantage of those wanting to assist.
Individuals need to be aware of emerging fraud online associated with the explosions and how to take necessary precautions when using e-mail and social networking Web sites. As of 17 April 2013, the FBI has received indications that individuals may be using social media and e-mail to facilitate fraudulent activities online.
There have been reports of a Spam E-mail being circulated to lure potential victims to malware and exploits. The subject of the spam e-mail in one version is “Boston Marathon Explosion”. The e-mail contains links that could infect your computer. Clicking on the link opens up a compromised Web page that shows a series of videos of the attack site. There is an unloaded video at the bottom of the Web page that leads to the Red Exploit Kit, which exploits various vulnerabilities on the user’s computer. Once an exploit has been successful, the user sees a popup asking them to download a file at which time malware is downloaded.
Social Media is another avenue criminals use to solicit donations. According to various reports, a Twitter account was created soon after the explosions that resembled a legitimate Boston Marathon account. Allegedly, for every tweet received to the account adollar would be donated to the Boston Marathon victims. Though the account was suspended by Twitter, it is likely others may use this same method to commit fraud. The FBI was made aware of at least 125 questionable domains registered within hours of the Boston Marathon Explosions. Though the intentions of the registrants are unknown, domains have emerged following other disasters for fraudulent purposes.
Individuals should be vigilant when using email and social networking Web sites following the Boston Marathon explosions. Based on previous disasters, cyber criminals may use this event as a means to further illegal activity to gain personally identifiable information (PII).
Individuals can limit exposure to cyber criminals by taking the following preventative actions when using email and social networking Web sites.
Messages may contain pictures, videos, and other attachments designed to infect your computer with malware. Do not agree to download software to view content.
Links appearing as legitimate sites (example: fbi.gov), could be hyperlinked to direct victims to another Web site when clicked. These sites may be designed to infect your computer with malware or solicit personal information. Do not follow a link to a Web site; go directly to the Web site by entering the legitimate site’s URL.
Individuals can also limit exposure to cyber criminals by taking the following preventative actions when receiving solicitations from, or donating to, charitable organizations online.
Verify the existence and legitimacy of organizations by conducting research and visiting official Web sites. Be skeptical of charity names similar to but not exactly the same as reputable charities.
Do not allow others to make the donation on your behalf. Donation-themed messages may also contain links to Web sites designed to solicit personal information, which is routed to a cyber criminal.
Make donations securely by using debit/credit card or write a check made out to the specific charity. Be skeptical of making donations via money transfer services as legitimate charities do not normally solicit donations using this method of payment.
If you believe you have been the victim of fraud by someone soliciting funds on behalf of disaster victims or want to report suspicious e-mail solicitations or fraudulent Web sites please file a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at https://www.ic3.gov/
