Hackensack NJ, the City of Hackensack has hired five firefighters using a $1 million federal grant to bolster the department’s ranks as the city grows. Five probationary firefighters Anthony Alexander, 28, Ruben Ceballos, 29, Anthony Colantino, 36, Corey Eyer, 23, and Charles Redstone IV, 25 ,have begun training at the fire academy to prepare them to join the 100-member department.
The department had argued, like most towns that have added high density housing, that they needed to grow as thousands of people move into newly constructed high-rise apartment buildings downtown.
