Cresskill NJ, according to pedestrian safety activists Frank Geraghty the most dangerous crosswalk in Bergen County is located in Cresskill at Union avenue and Cresskill avenue. Enclosed photo correctly shows a well placed pedestrian warning sign which indicates area where crosswalk should be located with arrow pointing down to exact spot where crosswalk should begin.
The crosswalk in question starts on FAR SIDE behind tree, hidden from view of vehicular traffic and then crosses the avenue instead of starting at NEAR SIDE of tree where motorists and pedestrians can see each other. Photo also shows a wise pedestrian looking around tree before proceeding. A few ladies I spoke to say this problem is more dangerous at dusk. I suggest anyone wishing to look at this badly marked intersection play it safe and view the intersection from a helicopter only.

Frank should get a dog or something.
people say the same about you
what about godwin ave in midland park by the post office. the cars NEVER stop for pedestrians
Last time he reported in Ridgewood there was an accident in the same spot a week later
The sign has to appear BEFORE the tree otherwise drivers won’t see it.
Even though pedestrians have the right of way they should never assume drivers are going to stop.
Anything else you need me to fix..?
Trees don’t pay high taxes..
That Tree is a Blind Spot- nothing romantic about that..
Cut that tree Down and even the Odds-
>> then properly survey exactly what is needed to make the crossing Safe from both sides for pedestrians ie Children ..
The correct answer is C, Remove the tree and have the town donate two trees to the Amazon rain forest.
I bet most pedestrians that get hit are liberals who expect someone else (the government?) to watch over them and take care of them.
