  1. Let’s queue up the morons that are going to start complaining that the police handled this improperly.

  2. Wait until the bodies start piling up in Garagzilla…

  3. 8:52. Still smarting from the “someone saw a gun” debacle? Posters here are pretty supportive of RPD.

A regional police force would be better.

  4. You are so right 8:52.

  5. Is Starbucks already regretting this venture as we all will when cars waiting in line start backing up into Franklin?

  6. just let the police do there jobs.

  7. 7:39 how about a regional Board of Education?

  8. A police state would even be better right 7:39! Funny nothing said about a regional fire dept.

  9. I don’t think that the police department touches the lives of residents the same way that our teachers and administrators do. A regional board of ed could lead to our children traveling further to school, no more local control and less parental input.

I do not feel the same about RPD. the officer patrolling does not know me and I do not know him/her. It really does not matter. When I visit other towns and cities their school system does not matter to me. They have police departments protecting and serving. As in Ridgewood, I do not know the oficers and it does not matter when they do their job.

Regionalization would allow a more efficient use of police officers and less administration.would save money. New Jersey has hundreds of towns and police departments.

A regional school system would save money too. Education is personal, teachers touch the lives of every child. Once a successful merger of police departments is achieved we could look to see what practices could be applied to schools.

  10. WOW 7:16!

  11. 7:16 Thank You for confirming my suspicion.

  12. What I said about police could be applied to fire. Not all towns have paid fire departments. This is a very expensive perk.

  13. Regional police does not equat police state. It is efficiencies in administration. The police would continue to enforce the law. The government that we elect would be more of a concern to you.

  14. Every PSEG truck gets two police cars on either side as escort. However, last night after the fireworks display was over – there were NO police cars where needed despite the massive gridlock, especially on Oak St.

  15. 9:45 sorry there were NO police cars where YOU needed them. They were probably busy elsewhere. July 4th is a very busy day for them. Hope you made it home.

  16. Meter maids should have been pressed into service to do something positive with Pedestrian flows for a change. Not a Fan…

  17. On July 4 we have officers from other towns help out – kind of like a regional police department.

And our departments have “mutual aid” agreements.

A regional police dept would cover this and more.

  18. “A regional police force would be better.”
    WRONG.
    .
Also, this particular issue did involve a regional police force (Bergen County Sheriff) working alongside the RPD.
    .
Shame on you for using a dead body to advance your political agenda.
    .

  19. The “dead body” that you speak so reverently of?

My opinion on a better, more efficient organization for policing is just my opinion. It would be a “political agenda” if I were in a position to implement it.

Working alongside another police force is not the same as being a part of the same police force. Duplication in organization is expensive and unnecessary.

  20. more education required…
One can have a political agenda even if on e is not in a position to implement it.
    .
BTW, are you a product of the RW “tradition of excellence” education system?
