Delanco Township NJ, a 26-year-old man from Delanco Township, Eric Nicholas Gapco, is facing federal charges after allegedly causing an American Airlines flight to be diverted to Utah last month.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Gapco, a passenger on flight #2101 from Seattle to Dallas on July 18, assaulted and intimidated a flight attendant and other crew members. The authorities report that Gapco vaped on the flight, disturbed fellow passengers, and locked himself in the bathroom. The situation escalated when he allegedly attempted to open the plane’s doors multiple times mid-flight.

In response to the alarming behavior, the crew took immediate action, restraining Gapco with hand and foot restraints. Gapco reportedly ignored instructions to stay seated, propositioned a flight attendant for sex, and was persistently loud throughout the ordeal.

Due to the severity of the incident, the flight was diverted to Salt Lake City International Airport, where law enforcement officers arrested Gapco upon landing.

The FBI Salt Lake City Field Office and the Salt Lake City Police Department are currently investigating the case. Gapco has been charged with interference with a flight crew and attempted damage to an aircraft within the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States.
