Ridgewood NJ, Joan from Ridgewood, a beloved caller whose unexpected and humorous call became a memorable moment on WFAN’s morning show, has passed away. The station announced her passing on X, expressing their sorrow and appreciation for the joy she brought to listeners.

“We were devastated to learn that Joan, who provided this great WFAN moment, has passed away. She will be missed,” the station posted.

Joan became a cherished figure on a June morning when she called into “Boomer and Gio,” hosted by former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason and media personality Gregg Giannotti. Rather than discussing sports, Joan, identified only as “Joan in Ridgewood, New Jersey,” candidly shared her personal troubles.

“I’m not doing well,” she said. “I need somebody over here, and I call this 888 number and somebody picked up.”

As Esiason and Giannotti listened, both confused and amused, producer Al Dukes clarified that Joan was experiencing issues with her dryer, an overturned La-Z-Boy recliner, and her remote control. Joan had been calling various numbers, but people struggled to hear her due to her old phone. Fortunately, Dukes and the show’s audience could hear her clearly.

“I said, ‘Well, you’ve called a sports station,'” Dukes recounted. “She goes, ‘I don’t care. Put me through to somebody who can help me.'”

Off-air, Dukes took down Joan’s phone number and address and reached out to the Ridgewood Police Department. An officer was dispatched to perform a wellness check and resolved Joan’s issues, replacing the batteries in her remote, setting her recliner upright, and fixing her dryer.

“It really is funny,” Giannotti said. “She called WFAN to get those three things fixed, and she got those three things fixed.”

Joan’s call not only brought laughter but also highlighted the kindness and community spirit of WFAN and its listeners. She will be remembered fondly by all who heard her story and the warmth she brought to the airwaves.

  1. God Bless Joan, rest in peace!

  2. An obnoxious person, honestly.
