On March 7, 2023, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotic Task Force were alerted to a stolen BMW 550 traveling through Bergen County. The BMW had been reported stolen during a burglary in Maplewood, NJ on March 7, 2023. Detectives located the stolen BMW in Englewood and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver of the stolen vehicle, JOHN LEROY JOHNSON, attempted to elude detectives but eventually pulled over and surrendered in Fort Lee near the George Washington Bridge.
As a result of the investigation, JOHN LEROY JOHNSON was arrested at the scene on March 7, 2023, and charged with second-degree eluding, N.J.S.A. 2C:29-2b and third-degree receiving stolen property, N.J.S.A. 2C:20-7a. JOHNSON was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable
doubt. He would also like to thank the Port Authority Police Department and the Fort Lee Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
Had to stop… couldn’t afford the Bridge Toll.
