Lodi NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of JOHN LAIOSA (DOB: 10/9/1946; single; retired) of 35 Trudy Drive, Lodi, NJ. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Hackensack Police Department under the direction of Officer-in-Charge Captain Michael Antista.
On Saturday, August 26, 2023, at approximately 8:47 p.m., the Hackensack Police Department Department received a 911 call reporting a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at the intersection of Essex Street and Lehigh Street in Hackensack, NJ. The pedestrian, a 65-year-old Hackensack resident, was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment of serious bodily injuries.
An investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Hackensack Police Department revealed that a 2019 Ford Mustang operated by JOHN LAIOSA struck the victim as she crossed Essex Street, and that the driver fled the area prior to police arrival.
As a result of the investigation, JOHN LAIOSA was charged with third-degree knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.1. LAIOSA was also issued motor vehicle summonses for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and failure to report a motor vehicle accident. LAIOSA was released on his own recognizance pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would also like to thank the Hackensack Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in this investigation.
