RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Local government got a youthful makeover this week as the Village of Ridgewood hosted its annual Bring Your Child to Work Day. The event offered young residents a rare “all-access pass” to see exactly what goes into keeping one of Bergen County’s most vibrant communities running smoothly.

From the halls of Village Hall to the specialized equipment of our first responders, the day was packed with hands-on learning and inspiration for the next generation of public servants.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Public Service

The day was designed to be more than just a “day off” from school. Children had the opportunity to meet staff across various departments, gaining insight into the diverse roles that support the Village infrastructure.

By experiencing the daily operations of local government firsthand, the young visitors learned how teamwork and dedication translate into the services Ridgewood residents rely on every day.

Police Department Highlights: Drones, Drills, and Dough

The Ridgewood Police Department was a major hit, providing a high-energy environment that blended education with pure fun. Highlights from the RPD’s participation included:

  • High-Tech Drones: Kids witnessed live demonstrations of how police use drone technology for public safety and search operations.

  • Forensic Fun: A fingerprinting station allowed children to see the science behind modern detective work.

  • Vehicle Exploration: Youngsters were able to climb inside multiple police vehicles, learning about the specialized equipment officers use on patrol.

  • Creative Stations: Between the action, coloring activities kept the younger guests engaged.

The day concluded on a high note with a pizza lunch, generously provided by the Ridgewood PBA, giving the kids a chance to sit down and chat with officers in a relaxed setting.

Building a Memorable Tradition

The Village extends a huge thank you to all the employees who took the time to mentor and engage with their children. These experiences create lasting memories and foster a sense of community pride in our youth.

Whether they aspire to be a police officer, an engineer, or a Village manager, these young visitors left with a much better understanding of what it means to serve the community of Ridgewood.
