HO-HO-KUS, NJ — An early morning single-vehicle accident caused significant traffic disruptions and infrastructure damage in Ho-Ho-Kus on Friday, June 5, 2026.

Emergency crews rushed to northbound Sheridan Avenue, just south of Hollywood Avenue, following reports of a severe collision. Upon arrival, responders discovered a black Honda Pilot that had veered off the roadway and slammed directly into a utility pole.
The impact left the Honda SUV heavily damaged. The driver, whose identity has not yet been released, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at the scene before being transported by emergency medical personnel.
Multi-Agency Response and Traffic Diversions
The incident triggered a rapid, coordinated response from local public safety agencies. Units on the scene included the:
-
Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department
-
Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department
-
Ho-Ho-Kus EMS
Due to the severity of the wreck and the hazard posed by the compromised utility pole, authorities completely shut down traffic on Sheridan Avenue in both directions. Commuters faced significant delays as police officers diverted vehicles away from the Hollywood Avenue corridor to allow emergency responders to work safely.
A flatbed tow truck was eventually brought in to extract and remove the mangled SUV from the scene.
PSE&G Crews Evaluated Infrastructure Damage
Beyond the vehicle damage, the collision left a utility pole structurally compromised. Crews from the PSE&G Electric Division were requested at the scene to evaluate the stability of the grid infrastructure. Preliminary assessments indicate that the heavily damaged pole will likely need a complete replacement.
Utility workers and local emergency crews remained on-site throughout the morning to clear debris and secure the area. Local commuters are advised to monitor area traffic or seek alternate routes if utility repairs continue to affect Sheridan Avenue.
The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department.
