Early Morning Crash on Fourth Avenue Leads to DWI Arrest

Westwood NJ, An Emerson man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after crashing his car into a Westwood home early Monday morning, according to police.
The Westwood Volunteer Fire Department, Westwood Police, Emerson Police, and the Westwood Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the crash at 3 a.m. at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Lincoln Boulevard.
Fire Department Secures Scene, No Injuries Reported
Upon arrival, Westwood Fire Captains Griffin and Stewart found that the vehicle had struck the front of the home, but there were no reports of entrapment or fire.
- Rescue 1 secured power to both the vehicle and the affected area of the home.
- Engine 1 stood by in case a hose line was needed.
- Westwood Police took control of the scene once the vehicle was removed.
Driver Arrested for DWI
The 45-year-old driver was taken to Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus before being charged with reckless driving and driving while intoxicated, said Westwood Police Chief Michael Pontillo.
Fortunately, the home’s residents were upstairs at the time and were not injured. A Westwood construction official later inspected the home and determined that the damage was not structural.
Crash Scene Cleared by 4:30 AM
The vehicle was towed from the scene, and emergency crews cleared the area by 4:30 a.m.
