Westwood Fire Fighters Take Out Early Morning Dumpster Fire

Westwood NJ, Wednesday morning at 6:45 am, the Westwood Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for a reported dumpster fire in a apartment building complex on Kinderkamack Road. Engine 1 arrived on scene and stretched 1 line to extinguish a well involved dumpster fire. Engine 1-2 was also on scene and assisted with overhaul.

No Injuries Reported ,2 Cats Rescued from House Fire in Westwood

Westwood NJ, on Thursday August 17th, just after 8am, the Westwood Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to Mountain Avenue for a reported house fire. Upon arrival of the first due units on scene it was confirmed that there was a fire with smoke coming from the front door. Command then called for a working fire assignment, which dispatches the River Vale Fire Department for a “fast team”. (A fast team is used in the fire service as a stand by crew ready to grab a downed firefighter at a fire scene in case the firefighter becomes injured or trapped).

Westwood Volunteer Fire Department dispatched to a Strip Mall Fire on Kinderkamack Road

Westwood NJ, on Saturday October 22, the Westwood Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported fire on Kinderkamack road. Chief 15-1 arrived on scene and had smoke showing from the rear of a 1 story strip mall. Engine 1 arrived and stretched a line to the front door of a restaurant and found fire in the kitchen with extension to the cock loft. Crews from Truck 1 laddered the building and immediately went to the roof to open up. Engine 1-2’s crew assisted is stretching a backup line and overhaul. Crews made an aggressive attack to quickly knock down the fire and hold it to the store front of origin.

Twp of Washington House Fire : “Ignited by paint or stain cans stored outside, basically cooking all summer in the heat and sun, which finally ignited”

Twp of Washington NJ, on Friday afternoon the Westwood fire department was dispatched mutual aid to Washington Township for a working house fire. Truck 1 was the first due truck company, due to Township still being trained on their new ladder truck. Truck 1 took the front of the structure and went right to work with 2 crews. While the first crew went up to the second floor to start opening up the ceiling the second crew laddered the building for multiple escape routes in case of an emergency. The interior crews made a good stop in the attic so the fire could not spread further into the house. Also on scene was Engine 1 and Utility 1 with manpower. Good job by all crews and good job to Twp of Washington Fire Dept. . – Bergen County with a quick knock on the main body of fire.  Pascack Road was closed in both directions (in front of Memorial Field) .

Park Ridge firefighters battle two-alarm blaze at former Sony campus

Park Ridge NJ, on March 13, 2021, at approximately 1:45 p.m. the Park Ridge Fire Department was dispatched to 1 Sony Drive, for a reported fire. A passerby called Northwest Bergen Central Dispatch and reported seeing flames and smoke coming from the vacant office building. The Park Ridge Police Department arrived and confirmed that there was a fire in the building and that there were workers on scene preparing the building for demolition.

Coffee Roaster Starts Fire at Caffe Anello in Westwood

Westwood NJ, at 10:35 hrs on Monday, December 2nd the Westwood fire department, was dispatched to Caffe Anello on Madison Ave. for the reported toaster fire. Within minutes, Westwood Police arrived on the scene confirming a fire inside the building upgrading the call to a working fire. Once on the scene, Engine 1 established a water supply and went inside to quickly knock down the fire. They were met inside the structure with truck 1 and engine 1-2’s crews for overhaul. The fire started above the drop ceiling caused by an industrial coffee roaster and had a very minor extension. Both Hillsdale Fire Department and Emerson Volunteer Fire Department offered assistance.
