Englewood NJ, Englewood’s PBA  issues a scathing letter blasting Englewood Mayor Michael Wildes for playing politics and grandstanding with law enforcement .  In a statement the city’s police union calls the use of force by officers “appropriate and completely necessary.” in a clash at a Black Lives Matter rally last weekend . The PBA statement claims the organizers “chose to interfere with an active investigation and interject themselves into the situation,”

The statement from Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local 216 comes just days after the department fell under scrutiny for an altercation between officers and participants in a small rally which ended when four protesters were arrested Saturday, including organizer Ainsworth Minott.

The clash between police and protesters erupted after BLM protesters claimed to have tried to break up a fight among teenage girls that was unrelated to the Black Lives Matter demonstration. Englewood cops, backed by police from other jurisdictions, moved in, and a flurry of pushing and shoving ensued. Minott faces charges that include resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.

The union said in the statement that it’s unclear whether the fight that officers received a call about was related to the protest, which contradicted the statement made by Mayor Michael Wildes, who claimed the march came to an “abrupt and premature end after organizers selflessly intervened in breaking up an unrelated physical altercation between residents on the street.”

The PBA 216 expressed disappointment in Wildes, who it says has “consistently chosen to play both sides against the middle” and it said it would welcome an independent investigation.

The union continued , “Our officers respond to dangerous calls on a regular basis, and we do so without regard for our own safety. We make difficult decisions based on limited information, in split-second time,”,  “Our officers will not be intimidated by false accusations in a rush to judgment before all the facts have been considered.”

  1. As an adult, and in this climate, how can anyone iin high power state that the mayor is “playing both sides”? There are no SIDES! We are all human beings and ahoukd be treated as such. The police officers were responding to a fight between two young girls, and also knowing there was a protest happening the same day. What split decisions do you have to make? They (THE POLICE OFFICERS) caused chaos as soon as the stepped on the scene! This is exactly why we need #POLICEREFORM. These people don’t know how to react to ANYTHING!!

  2. Without having any direct knowledge of the particulars of this specific event, let’s start with some basics:
1 – the police are responsible to enforce existing laws
2 – at a minimum, police are charged with maintaining the peace
3 – citizens are obligated to comply with lawful police orders
4 – based on the preceding narrative, police were called to the site of a disturbance

SO: Why would ANY thinking citizen, i.e.; anyone with a sense of propriety and law and order, find it their DUTY to voluntarily interfere with and become actively involved in a police action? That’s just stupid! Any such interference smacks of lawlessness – no one is or should be above the law.

That one is above the law is a serious misconception, and this misconception on the part of an interfering individual does not entitle that individual to inject themselves into an ongoing police action. That’s either just asking for trouble or looking to generate a Twitter-worthy video snippet – both of these goals are certainly counter-productive in the long term.

BOTTOM LINE: to avoid and/or prevent any such similar unfortunate outcomes in the future, one would be best advised to comply with lawful orders as given by law enforcement and distance oneself as much as possible from any police action.

And to those who chose to become involved in this action: when TSHTF in your life, who YOU gonna call, Ghostbusters? NO! You are gonna call the POLICE. So better get smart now!

  6. Defund BLM, Antifa and the Demoncraps Party, declare them all terrorist groups and start putting them in prison! Watch how quickly things settle down and become orderly again.( just my open opinion!)

Look at all these people not acting like they are above the law. Clearly, these are law respecters — what an inspiration. Look how orderly things are when Trump supporters are involved.

I am looking forward to my Garden State Parkway BLM rally where I disrupt miles of traffic for my cause — I am sure the ridgewoodblog will give its full-throated, freedom-loving support for this kind of rally, because this is the example all protests should follow.

    1. why you think your the only one who can block traffic???
