Fair Lawn NJ, Fair Lawn officials are urging residents to be cautious when contributing to fundraising appeals for businesses impacted by last week’s strip mall fire. They have noted the emergence of several “fraudulent” campaigns.
The two-alarm fire, which occurred on July 26, severely damaged several businesses located at the Fair Lawn Avenue strip mall. The affected businesses include Zadies Kosher Bake Shop, the Green Dragon restaurant, Fair Lawn Roadhouse, Flynn’s Barbershop, Dream on Lash Salon, and Regency Cleaners. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
On the Fair Lawn Facebook page, officials acknowledged the overwhelming support from the community for the affected businesses. However, they warned that some individuals are attempting to exploit this generosity with fraudulent fundraising campaigns. They emphasized the importance of verifying the legitimacy of any fundraising efforts before donating.
Verified GoFundMe Campaigns
Officials have verified the legitimacy of GoFundMe campaigns for four businesses: Green Dragon, Flynn’s Barbershop, Fair Lawn Roadhouse, and Dream on Lash. Links to these verified campaigns can be found on the municipal Facebook page and website.
As of Friday afternoon, the fundraising campaigns have raised the following amounts:
- Green Dragon: $6,800
- Flynn’s Barbershop: $31,000
- Fair Lawn Roadhouse: $16,000
- Dream on Lash: $500
Eunice Lee, the owner of Dream on Lash, expressed her gratitude on the GoFundMe page, stating, “We are fortunate to be safe, but the road to recovery is daunting and filled with challenges. The emotional and financial burden is overwhelming, and we are reaching out to our community for support during this incredibly difficult time. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and support.”
