Garfield NJ, the FBI is seeking the public’s help in locating Ricky “Angel” Vargas, a suspect in a deadly stabbing at JoJo’s Bar & Grill in Garfield. A $15,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest.
Suspect Wanted in Deadly Garfield Bar Stabbing
Authorities say Vargas, 36, was one of five men who attacked 31-year-old Richard Franceschi of Hawthorne on February 4, 2024. The violent assault took place just after midnight, with Franceschi suffering multiple stab wounds to the chest. He was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
Four of the five suspects were apprehended by March 2024, but Vargas remains at large. He was indicted in Bergen County on first-degree murder charges and later charged in federal court with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
FBI Warns Vargas Is Armed and Dangerous
FBI Newark, along with local and federal agencies, is asking for tips to track down Vargas. The suspected Latin Kings gang member was last known to live in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, but has ties to Chicago and Winter Park, Florida.
Authorities describe Vargas as:
- 5 feet 5 inches tall
- 200 pounds
- Has numerous tattoos on his arms and hands
- Typically wears glasses and has facial hair
- Does not have a valid driver’s license and relies on rideshare apps and mass transit
