Do you know how to protect your identity online? We have five simple tips to help keep you safe!

Privacy Settings

Make sure to enable privacy settings on all of your social media accounts.

Two-Step Verification

Two-step verification features adds an extra level of security to your account by asking you to enter a unique security code in addition to your passwords. As an example, here are are instructions on how to enable this feature on Amazon.
Log into your account.
In the upper right corner of the screen, hover your mouse over Accounts & Lists. Select Your Account.
Click on Login & security – **you may be required to log in again**
Click the Edit button for Advanced Security Settings
Click Get Started to set up two-step verification
Add your primary cell phone number (this phone must be able to receive text messages) and click Send Code
Enter the code that was sent to your phone and click Verify code and continue
Add a back up phone number and decide on a delivery format – either text message or voice call and click Save Backup Number – **You won’t be able to turn on two-step verification without a backup phone number – this is so you have another method of receiving your code if you don’t have access to your primary mobile device**
You will be taken back to Advanced Security Settings and Two-Step Verification will now have a census of Enabled
Safe Web Browsing

Make sure to check for HTTPS:// security for any website on which you enter information.

Password Managers

A password manager assists in generating and retrieving complex passwords, potentially storing such passwords in an encrypted database or calculating them on demand. Valley IS does not endorse any specific password manager, it is up the end user to find something that works for them. Here are 5 that are commonly used:
oneSafe: https://www.onesafe-apps.com/
Password: https://1password.com/
LastPass: https://www.lastpass.com/
Dashlane: https://www.dashlane.com/
Keeper: https://keepersecurity.com/
Security Updates

Make sure that you apply security updates (Windows, Apple, Android) in a timely manner to your computers and/or your mobile devices.

  1. My ex wife has used my social and other information to get what she wants I got a divorce and she took my son ignoring court saying I have 50% custody. I went to court and all of them told me get a lawyer I’m not rich I don’t have money like that I’m a security officer. What makes it worse she goes to child support and ask for more money and they jump to it but none of them are willing to look into the case. So identify is stolen and I know from who and courts don’t want to help without money in their pockets. I hate the system for this reason alone. And it has nothing to do with her when she doing it out of spite. She cheated on me for years she lied and stole money from me and my family yet I get punished. I know this is not fear so I when I turn on news and see what’s going on in the world I see that this is normal wicked people runs the world and get away with it
