“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my friend, former Councilman Arthur Cumming. A great man in every sense of the word!”
“I was blessed to meet and get to know Art when he was suggested to fill a seat on the Zoning Board. When I met him, his intelligence, character and experience were obvious and I nominated him for the position. That meeting began what turned into an incredible friendship with an amazing and dynamic man. Needless to say, I was elated when he chose to run with me for our respective Mayor and Council seats.
Art was a class act and a true gentleman. I will never forget his unique and special wit and charm! Any day that had Art in it was a great day. I always just felt better when I saw him and honored to call him my friend. I will forever cherish our many office or poolside chats. He was truly larger than life yet completely in touch and grounded, a very special and unique combination. Of course we discussed town business, but mostly we just talked about anything that came up from current events to sharing and discussing our life experiences. If anyone can be said to have led a full life, it was him! He could tell you a story like no one I have ever met. I was always richer for having listened and grateful for all that he shared. His experiences and accomplishments are too numerous and too fascinating to even try and list here, as no list could ever do them or he justice.
Art took tremendous pride in the Township and he served it and the residents with passion and distinction! As a Councilman, as he did in every aspect of life, he went above and beyond with every task at hand. When he saw a problem, a need or even just something that needed fixing, he would immediately dive in and do all he could and bring his great many resources and talents to bear to fix or solve it. The results speak for themselves! From him spearheading the effort to revitalize Memorial Field, to his obtaining of grants to replace the HVAC systems at all the Town owned buildings, his service to both the Green Team and the new Fire/Ambulance Corp Building Committee and his most recent project of installing a building energy management system in Town Hall, we are forever grateful.
Our Township is a much better place thanks to his tireless and dedicated service.
Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. I know from our talks and seeing him with them, they truly were the light of his life.
His wife Mary Anne, his children Scott and Heather, son-in-law AJ and his cherished grandchildren Gina and AJ, my deepest sympathies.
I lost not just a great friend, I lost a friend who was great!
May you rest in eternal peace Art.
