Hackensack NJ, on February 21, 2024, Hackensack Police Officers responded to a residential home on Poplar Avenue on a report of a person who was being held against their will at gunpoint. The suspect was encounted on scene, and a neighboring police department located the victim. The victim was not injured and subsequently transported to Police Headquarters for the investigation.
Patrol Officers, Detective Stanislav Tovbin, and members of the Detective Bureau conducted a follow up investigation. As a result of their investigation, on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, CHRISTOPHER BABOOLAL was arrested without incident. He was charged with second degree terroristic threats / N.J.S.A 2C:12-3A, second degree possession of a firearm with no permit / N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5B(1), second degree unlawful possession of a firearm / N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4A(1), fourth degree possession of a large capacity magazine / N.J.S.A. 2C:39-3J, third degree criminal restraint / N.J.S.A. 2C:13-2A, and third degree aggravated criminal sexual contact / N.J.S.A. 2C: 14-3A. Afirearm and large capacity magazine was recovered from the crime scene.
BABOOLAL was processed and transported to the Bergen County Jail on a complaint warrant pending his first appearance at Central Judicial Processing court ni Hackensack, NJ.
These charges are merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The Hackensack Police Department would also like ot thank the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and the Ridgefield Park Police for their assistance in this investigation. The Bergen County Sheriffs Office partnership with the Hackensack Police Department, wil process the seized crime gun through the National Integrated Ballistics Imaging Network (NIBIN) to ensure it was not used in any other crime.
