HO-HO-KUS — Donna Cioffi said she was ignoring a letter from borough officials directing her to remove traffic-counting cables she paid an engineering firm to install across the street outside her home on Powderhorn Road.

The borough’s letter, delivered by a police officer Monday, threatened to remove the cables on Tuesday, yet they remained on the street Wednesday. The cables were eventually removed Wednesday evening.

Cioffi said Wednesday morning that she wasn’t at all concerned the town would intervene.

“Can you imagine the PR if they did?” Cioffi asked. “They would look like fools.”

Cioffi paid the engineering firm $600 to conduct the traffic study — the results of which will be forwarded to the borough, she said.

Cioffi maintains that traffic volumes on her street — a popular County Road 502 commuter cut-through — surpass the 4,000-plus vehicles that recent county estimates suggest traverse Powderhorn Road daily.

  1. She obviously is on safe ground (with her attorney advice) has drawn mutual attention and support.

    Good for her.

  2. What’s the desired endgame? She wants the town to realize it is a heavily traveled thoroughfare so they make make it double wide and put in a jersey barrier?

  3. There is nothing she can do.
If the state dept of transportation put an overpass at Racetrack road when they removed the traffic light the traffic would not be there.

  4. Hey News Searcher try doing a little research before you post. INTERFERENCE WITH TRANSPORTATION
    (N.J.S.A. 2C:33-14

  5. Yes News Searcher we all know that attorney are alway right even if their hotel attorneys.

  6. Put her in the Hackensack Annex tonight….

  7. #4 – not being familiar with these law, I looked up law you quoted to News Searcher- I don’t see how it applies.
    closest seems to be
“(3)endangers or obstructs the safe operation of motor vehicles by casting, shooting, throwing or otherwise placing any stick, stone, object or other substance upon any highway or roadway;”
but I don’t see how she endangered or obstructed

  8. #7 The point is that you are to put anything in the road way. Lets say that someone is riding a bike and hits the ribber hoses and falls. Yes I know it would probably never happen but.
