Ridgewood Nj, Councilmen Ramon Hache updates us on progress for the Hudson Street Garage .On Wednesday, April 25, there was a discussion and presentation regarding the design and plan for the Hudson Street Garage. Residents had a chance to see a detailed presentation by Epic Management Inc. The design by Epic provides the best balance in terms of fit, value and functionality, while incorporating a design that fits within the existing lot.

Design highlights:
255 parking spaces
3 stories with open fourth level
All parking is head in, 90 degree, with no parallel parking
Stall dimensions: 8′-6″ x 18′-0″
All parking within the structure is on flat areas

The project cost is $10 million with a guaranteed maximum price of $11 million. It is worth noting that, before the negotiations, Epic had come in with quotes as high as $12.6 million for the project. I am very proud of the work Mayor Knudsen and I have done in negotiating. Vote on funding is expected to take place in six weeks.

  1. No no no no

  2. What a crock all for the over developers

Rest of business district is a slum
    Town Garage need condemnation

    Cottage and Walnut Parking Lots
War Zones. Towns a joke including
    Surface roads asphalt

  3. Don’t do it! A financial disaster in the making.

  4. What a huge waste of money. It’s a monstrosity that looks like a prison and does nothing to keep the historical character of the CBD.

I’m very disappointed in Knudsen and Sedon. They should know better.

  5. Congratulations on advancing the project that few wanted. The hubris will be remembered.

  6. Its pretty clear that THE FIX IS IN

What a disgrace Shame on those
Who are trying to weasle this through ON TAXPAPERS BACKS

take a look at other towns like Westfield that have good clean organized surface Lots. They are building a jail for our tax money this
Will be an epic loss maker and be a permanent footing for the crime drugs and asault district .Lets Stop this ripoff to local taxpayers

  7. So much for Knudsen and Sedon stnding up to developers. Very disappointing if this passes. A total betrayal.

  8. Ramon Hache = disappointing, duplicitous turncoat.
    Quite a shame.

  9. All these negative comments are coming from those who don’t know the 20 years+ struggle we have had ever since the Hudson Street Fire House was taken down. This current council has fought long and hard for a compromise: smaller garage that fits the foot print. This last election had the challengers in favor of a larger one!

  10. 4:54 come on. This thing is an abomination and will cost taxpayer dearly. Hache, Knudsen, and Sedon are not living up to their promises. Here come the developers.

  11. $1.50 per hour for the meters.
    That’s the future.
Hope the meter times include Friday & Saturday dinner hours.
Restaurants shouldn’t get a free ride.

  12. it’s the this small nightmare could have been a real bigger nightmare argument and We the taxpayers are the hook forever for another huge loss generator .

Look into how these large garages are brought to the buildout sites –

Mostly in large Pre fabricated over length sections trucked in via closed
streets and even after hours crane lifts.

  13. We definitely need more parking in the CBD with all these restaurants. The mayor and council need to behave Walnut Street and College Street needs to be reconstructed it hasn’t been touched in 25 years. And they need to pave a few streets in the CBD Franklin Avenue waulnut. Cottage oak it’s time

  14. At this point I feel like I shouldn’t have even voted. This garage is going to cause so much traffic and cost so much money for taxpayers. I thought Sedon and Knudsen were the answer, but it seems like they’re in bed with the developers too.

No no no on the garage.

  15. Total boondoggle! Sad!

  16. Is this garage a gift to developers who will be allowed to use these parking spots as part of their calculations to builder higher density housing to meet the number of required parking spaces per unit?
The only time we need extra parking is so lazy restaurant patrons don’t have to walk 3 blocks to park for a 3 hour peak dining period on Friday and Saturday evening.
The merchants should pull their heads out of the sand.
Retail is dying a slow death
First the malls took your customers.
Now Amazon is taking the customers from the malls
Many big retailers are calling it quits. Sears being the latest casualty.
A garage won’t save your dying business.
Do you really think you can still sell 8 track tapes , cassettes or even CD.? Times change.
There is ample day time parking
The taxpayers shouldn’t be tossing your failing business’s model a 11-12 million dollar subsidy.
Just look at the NJ transit garage on rt 17 in Ramsey. The “build it and they will come” bs did not work out at all and the place is full of parking for the car dealers on rt 17. Not commuters.
A garage will not bring in any new customers for a failed outdated business model.
And if the merchants were smart they would be open at night when the restaurants generat the foot traffic required for successful retail survival. We are not a destination so unless you make it one, suggest you take advantage of the only time there is sufficient foot traffic to get customers into your store.

  17. Those of against the garage know exactly what we are talking about. Times have changed. We don’t need this garage.

  18. Ha ha did you all vote for knudson you fools. The non developer… Ha ha you were tricked and it’s not even October

    1. I guess besides name calling you don’t pay much attention to whats going on in the Village

  19. Nobody wants the garage, but all of the council candidates supported the garage. What gives.

  20. With all the talk of Knudsen and Sedon protecting the Village from overdevelopment this sure seems like the opposite of that.

I voted for them but this is not good at all. Now all we can do is wait and see for two years. They should rethink this waste of money.

  21. There are people that do want the garage, so you can’t say nobody wants it

  22. This 10M garage funding has been a big issue while the board of ed is ready to increase their debt from 47M to 120M. No one is paying attention to board of ed?

  23. Many of those who voted Knudsen/Sedon including me did so because we had to choose the lesser of 2 evils. We were told (time will tell) that the other side was much worse so we had to settle for the less bad. We were between a rock and a hard place. Truth is nobody can stand up to developers nowadays especially when they have the full support of state politicians. The worst is yet to come with housing. Morris Plains is being forced to build more than 700 units in a town of a couple of thousand of people. They were forced via FSH and sued by developers that the court fully sided with. Watch what will happen to us and the nearby towns. When the affordable units won’t fill up due to being not affordable developers will ask to accommodate section 8 recipients. Once that happens you can kiss “a tradition excellence” goodbye. This is doom and gloom for real and it’s all because of politicians and left wing agenda.

  24. All of the bitter Harwin / Willett voters are trying to paint Knudsen and Sedon as the “wrong” vote are just continuing their smear campaign.
    .
EVERYONE knows that Knudsen and Sedon were the “best” candidates to vote for from a bad bunch.
    .
YES, Knudsen and Sedon are DISAPPOINTING in their support for the Ginormous Garage.
BUT, Harwin and Willett would be WORSE since they would be for an EVEN LARGER GINORMOUS-ER GARAGE.
    .
Also, Knudsen and Sedon with all their flaws generally try to keep the best interests of the village foremost while Harwin and Willett have their own interests and agenda foremost.
    .
So enough of the Knudsen / Sedon bashing. they were the best candidates in this election. However, they can easily be replaced by even better candidates in the future.
    .

  25. 11:44 They are mainly Union and have us the Curlies..Garage is major self inflicted wounding of a tired and ripped off working class.
