I am committed to fully funding school’s needs for it to provide excellent education for the students in the district. I have voted to approve all school-related projects that were recommended by the administration. That includes additional elementary school guidance counselors, Orchard field remediation, high school artificial turf field project, BF middle school track resurfacing, safety equipment purchases, the transitional 18-21 special education STEPSS lease, and so on.”

“I am driven by the belief that the board’s role is to oversee, not to overlook.
I use my skills and experience to ensure that each dollar is stretched further, and to put the savings back for the betterment of the school. For example, after studying each proposal for the BF track resurfacing, I pushed for the vendor that offered an extended warranty and more square yardage coverage for essentially the same price.
In another instance, the basement location with no windows for the STEPSS age 18-21 special education program had concerned me, but once no other immediate alternatives could be found, I strongly pushed for and achieved lower rent increases. Again, the savings will be reinvested in the school.
Smart money management has significant benefits, and that is one of my core competencies. In anticipation of COVID-related expenditures, I pushed for surplus funds to be allocated to more flexible accounts such as emergency reserves. As a result, the upgrade to the district communication system could be drawn from the school’s emergency account, which would preserve more federal funds to be used for improving classroom instruction to address learning loss.
Education has been a key part of my life, and when the schools thrive, the community prospers and this is my way of giving back to Ridgewood.”

  5. Has anybody asked BOE and Kwak what their opinion is on CRT and whether we should expect it to show up in our schools anytime soon?

  6. It’s difficult to hear current BOE members who are running talk about learning loss. It took a massive effort of parents last year to get the students more minutes of instruction especially at the K-5 level. If students have been their priority all along, the severity of learning loss , especially in the elementary grade levels could have been mitigated.
