Ridgewood NJ, CRR ‘s Pete Mckenna commented to the Ridgewood blog on the recent ruling ,that Ridgewood has 90 days to clear way for Valley Hospital expansion .
“The Judge’s decision is disappointing, but not surprising given the way she conducted these hearings.
I think this decision should have a chilling impact on municipalities across the state. If this decision is upheld it would indicate that localities have no say in controlling land-use within their borders if a hospital is involved.
If Ridgewood isn’t permitted to determine that 1 million square feet of building is too much for this sensitive site, than what are municipalities to do when applicants come forward with plans that are completely out of sync with their surroundings?
The Judge relied on the flawed 2016 Master Plan Amendment that is the subject of CRR’s current litigation.”
Thanks Pete….now that a third party has ruled in favor of the people’s hospital to expand its time for you and the rest of the NIMBY’S to call it a day. Thankfully in the end we all knew that a neutral third party would rule in favor of doing what’s right.
Fight the Sobs..
Pete
We all appreciate the uphill battle against a major business and the law that Corzine pushed through that eliminates any sort of evaluation of whether an institution with an “inherently beneficial ” usage is necessary.
Previously, it was a factor but not THE factor in zoning decisions. Clearly in this case it doesn’t make sense. There are multiple fine hospitals within 10 miles of here. There is clearly no lack of need.
Valley is a tough adversary. Clearly money is of no object to them. They buy up millions of dollars of languishing real estate and then they complain they are struggling.
Come on.
They have the real estate they need in Paramus now They should use it. It makes more sense for a “regional” hospital to build between two major highways in a commercial zone rather than on a small lot in a residential neighborhood. Princeton is the best example of what a good neighbor hospital would do- move to the highway when they outgrew their lot a few years ago.
Let’s bring this fight to the next level. Maybe now we can get Hackensack to chip in some more money, if they haven’t already.
Thanks.
This is now personal to Audrey and Valley
She will not stop until we are “punished”
Why aren’t Valley paying back taxes and annual municipal taxes to the Village of Ridgewood? Clearly their “not for profit” status is a joke, and the Village should be using the Morristown precedent to challenge it – looks like low hanging fruit.
4:01-Assuming you live here, how does Ridgewood benefit from having a medical center in the middle of a residential neighborhood ? This is a pretty simple question that, for some reason, not one supporter of this bad joke of an idea has failed to answer. Why don’t you try ?
10:48pm – Karma is a bitch. She will be punished by a higher power in THIS life, if she is acting for her own ego.
Bill H. Why don’t you try a Google search “NJ Inherently Beneficial Use”
Do a little reading.
Then you can stop blaming the Courts and start blaming your Legislature.
8:44- I read it. So I guess my question is :How many hospitals do you need to serve the immediate area ? Not to mention that it would certainly be more “beneficial” for all to put the thing in Paramus where it really belongs.
As far as who is to “blame,” why not start with Valley ? If it weren’t for their ridiculous request to expand we would not be having this discussion.
BTW, once again, a supporter did not answer the very basic question of how Ridgewood benefits from this proposal. That’s because you can’t.
We get a better hospital bill, one that’s equipped for the future.
And stop saying it “really belongs” in Paramus. It doesn’t
It belongs in Ridgewod. Where it’s always been. So I guess my question is : when see you going to stop your bitching? You said your property value went up because you were such a savvy investor so why do you keep complaining? It’s all about the money, right bill?
5:27- It’s all about the future of this town. What you really get is a medical center that does not belong in a residential neighborhood. If it belongs in Ridgewood then it should not expand. Renovate it to get it “equipped for the future.” Why is that so hard to understand ? And, I’ll “stop bitching” when people like you(and them) figure that out. BTW, why doesn’t it belong in Paramus, or elsewhere in Bergen county, for that matter ? As for being a “savvy investor,” if ANYONE bought here 35 Yrs. ago, updated a little, and held on, they would have done pretty well. But, thanks for the compliment.
I guess I’m just not big on arrogance and greed, which is what this is really all about. Princeton figured that out.
Valley should be paying property taxes, plus all the back taxes they owe the Village. Period.
