Newark NJ, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials have announced the arrest of Ming Xi Zhang, a Chinese national accused of illegally acting as an agent of a foreign government.

📍 Location: Newark, New Jersey
ICE’s Newark Field Office took Zhang into custody earlier this week, where he remains detained. Authorities confirmed that Zhang entered the U.S. in 2000 through Los Angeles International Airport and later violated the terms of his lawful admission.
Conviction & Sentencing
In 2024, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey convicted Zhang of acting as a foreign agent without notifying the attorney general. He was sentenced to three years of probation.
ICE’s Statement on the Case
📢 John Tsoukaris, Director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Newark, emphasized the significance of the arrest, stating:
“Any illegal alien conducting activities related to espionage, sabotage, or export control against the United States is subject to deportation.”
