Ridgewood NJ, With November’s elections fast approaching, an old FAKE NEWS story is making the rounds just like 2020 . “Election officials” are raising alarms about possible delays in mail voting due to ongoing issues with the U.S. Postal Service. In a recent letter to the Postal Service, groups representing election officials nationwide expressed concerns about the agency’s ability to handle election mail in a “timely and accurate manner.”
Over the past year, problems with mailed ballots have surfaced, including ballots postmarked on time but arriving after state deadlines, meaning they couldn’t be counted. Officials from the National Association of Secretaries of State and the National Association of State Election Directors also reported election mail being returned as undeliverable despite proper addressing, which could lead to voters being moved to inactive status. They highlighted inconsistent guidance from Postal Service employees, resulting in significant delays and errors.
Despite ongoing discussions with the Postal Service, officials say no substantial improvements have been made. The delays have, in some cases, resulted in voter disenfranchisement. “We implore you to take immediate and tangible corrective action to address the ongoing performance issues,” read the letter dated September 11th. The officials fear these issues could limit voter participation and erode trust in the election process.
Mail voting, which has been used for over a century, surged in popularity during the 2020 election amid the COVID-19 pandemic. While it remains under scrutiny due to baseless claims of widespread fraud, there’s no evidence of significant mail voting fraud. In 2020, 43% of voters cast their ballots by mail, with 31% doing so in 2022.
Postal Service Postmaster Louis DeJoy responded, noting that in 2020, 99.9% of ballots were delivered within seven days, with similar performance in 2022. However, some states have stricter deadlines. In 32 states, mail ballots must be received by Election Day to count, and 10 other states require ballots postmarked by Election Day to arrive within fewer than seven days.
Election officials from states like Kansas and Virginia have voiced concerns. Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab noted that nearly 1,000 ballots in his state’s recent primary were not counted due to late arrivals or missing postmarks. Virginia’s election commissioner, Susan Beals, cited Postal Service performance as her biggest concern for this year’s elections.
The Postal Service’s ongoing effort to modernize has compounded worries. Part of the modernization involves consolidating local processing facilities into megacenters, which could add days to mail delivery, affecting tight election deadlines. A report in April from the Postal Service’s inspector general found that a new facility in Richmond, Virginia, worsened service and led to canceled mail transportation trips.
Despite reassurances from DeJoy, experts like former Washington Secretary of State Kim Wyman and former Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth Kathy Boockvar urge voters to act early. They advise requesting and returning mail ballots as soon as possible to avoid potential delays.
“Don’t wait,” Boockvar said. “The best way to solve these issues is for voters to apply for their mail ballots as soon as possible and cast your ballots as soon as possible.”

I also feel like I’m starting to get the flu, but not like the regular flu, but a super flu that’s like, totally novel, and doesn’t act like any virus we’ve ever encountered except that it also totally does, and I’ll probably be dead soon, or at least one in five people I know will be, and then when we’re not and they tell me I have to go back to work tomorrow even after they made me quarantine for two weeks the last time, we’ll all pretend it’ll have never happened and someone no one ever wanted to vote for previously will be president.
The USPS sucks, and simply needs to go away!! The management and workers are unfixable. Please find every way imaginable to NOT mail something, if possible. Go paperless, utilize ACH, AutoPay, etc. to put this sad, antiquated organization out of our misery.
My deceased grandfather voted 5x for Biden in 2020.
Pops passed away in 1986.
Bullshit.
“The officials fear these issues could limit voter participation and erode trust in the election process.” -Is there really any trust left in the election process? After what they’ve done during the last 8 years there is very little hope for this country. Normal days are long gone.
Excuse me! The claims of voter fraud are NOT baseless! They are factual. It’s just that the media and the liberal courts have an agenda!
It should be vote in person or don’t vote.
With iron clad ID required.
Wait a minute. This is tradition.
Without the delayed mail-in and absentee ballots, how would the “check the box” historic Glen Rock council retain its absolute majority when the initial numbers indicate otherwise.
I say tradition instead of coincidence because this could be the third time it happens.
