It’s Just Not the Same Old Ridgewood

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, old timers will remember the Ridgewood used to be a town so clean you could virtually eat off the side walk , but that was a long time ago .  Just days after Earth Day the Village if a mess .

Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by EarthDay.org (formerly Earth Day Network) including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries. The official theme for 2022 is Invest In Our Planet.

Maybe it’s time to focus on cleaning up our own backyard ?

  1. I don’t know what’s going on but there’s a lot of litter in a CBD, all in the corners of the parking lots, definitely they need to spend more time sweeping.

    1. Glen Rock is the same

  2. Lets not forget all the plastic garbage bags on the curb (PROHIBITED) and garbage cans in the street (PROHIBITED)
The fake emergency from covid is long past.
This isnt Brooklyn… Isnt that why you moved here?
Leave your NYC bad habits and litter on the other side of the hudson river please.

  3. There are 2 problems I know of.
Both street sweeping machines are out of service. There is one that constantly breaks down and un-useable.
The town ordered a new one a very long time ago and still not ready.
Management has curtailed many jobs and overtime to stay within budget.
Notice he closed the recycling center on Wednesday’s?
And with the pandemic pretty much over, he has not revised picking up recycling form the business’s in town. These business’s either have to take themselves to the center or put in with their regular trash, increasing the carting bill.

  6. There’s no reason why the CBD is not sweeper seven days a week, it warrants it. With all the new housing in town, and pedestrians utilizing businesses this is a must. It’s the only way to keep on top of the business section. And no one wants to hear that they don’t have the money because they have it.

  7. If people stopped littering, there would be significantly less trash to sweep. Reducing littering makes more sense than having street sweepers running 7 days a week downtown.

  8. Is there a correlation between the amount of people from nyc that have moved to Ridgewood and how much trash is in town?

  9. The covid pandemic has accelerated the amount of crummy people moving from NYC, bringing their selfish ways and crummy ideas with them.

  10. I’m a resident for over 30 years over in the Saddle River Road section of town, maybe we see a sweeper twice a year if we are lucky. Years back they did a better job.

  11. Summer time is coming and we have a lot more residential housing in the CBD, and they are utilizing the CBD a lot more. And yes I need to be swept every single day. Of course the town will say they don’t have the money, that’s all bullshit. It should be swept every single day especially on weekends. Weekend shopper,
Weekend shopper, And user of the CBD on weekends.

  12. Who the hell is running the sweepers in the village Ridgewood beard who’s in charge. Who is making those decisions not to sweep the town. It’s filthy. Years ago and never look like this what the hell is going on. Something needs to be done immediately with the direction we’re going into because it’s not working. This is embarrassing there’s areas of the town that are filthy. Totally unacceptable. Are you going to nearby towns are neighbors garage spotless.
