Ridgewood NJ, is it just us or was the recent headline in the TapintoRidgewood extremely offensive ? The Tap headline reads ,“Kwak Elected First BOE President of Color”, of “Color”  so what “color” exactly is she and did Ridgewood just get transformed into the 1950’s deep south? Is bigotry that ingrained ?  Nothing like trying to take a demeaning backhanded swipe at the new president of the Ridgewood Board of Education.

HyunJu Kwak was elected because she is very smart ,works extremely hard , and can add , which is a novelty for the Ridgewood Board of Education, not her nationality or skin color . Many people in the Ridgewood education establishment do not like her because ,she can add. Some teachers and administrators dislike her because she can add ,but voters like her because she can add.

Math you see is color blind .

  2. I absolutely agree. It is an insult to Ms. Kwak to refer to her ethnicity. It infers that ethnicity is the ONLY reason she was elected. How about calling her “eminently qualified” or “well educated” or “extremely experienced” ??? And on MLK Day, where “content of her character” was supposed to count much more that “color of her skin” . The first poster was correct.

  3. They are just trying to be nice to her since they believe that NOT being white is a desirable virtue.
    This is how they think.
This is how TRUE RACISTS think.

  4. Ms. Kwak has referred to herself as a “woman of color” when citing previous achievements as well as her place on the Ridgewood BOE. This is a quote from one of her BOE campaign posts: “I am the first woman of color to be elected to the Board and the first minority ever in a leadership role as Vice-
President at the Board in its 125+ ear history.”

  5. So spot on. And, she can read and comprehend contracts too, another skill that has not always been visible in the BoE. Some people don’t like her because she she sees financial matters as part of the job and doesn’t agree that anything goes when it comes to the budget. There is a crowd that always takes out the pitchforks if anyone dares to question spending ‘on the kids’ or the teachers.

  6. She has played the minority card at every opportunity. Is she qualified? Absolutely. Will she do a good job? Yes. Is she a better President than that big oaf Lembo? Of course.

But make no mistake- she plays the card when it suits her.

  7. Unfortunately Ms. Kwak has played this card herself when she applied to become a BOE member. It doesn’t look good to her (a bit too opportunistic) but that doesn’t take away from the fact that she is a good fit for the position and I expect good things from her. She has the credentials. Will see.

  8. To the Anomymous who posted “big oaf Lembo – why don’t you identify yourself and say what you have to say to MR. LEMBO!

  11. I won’t post as Anonymous…

Instead, I ‘ll just post under an obviously fake name (a la “Mr. Lembo not”) and lambaste Anonymous posters since I am a BRAVE and RIGHTEOUS hypocritical fool with no self-awareness.
