Bloomfield NJ, Bloomfield High School experienced a brief lockdown Wednesday morning after “unauthorized juveniles” were spotted near the building, prompting concerns of a possible intruder. Thanks to quick action by school staff and police, the situation was swiftly resolved, and everyone in the school was reported safe.
The lockdown began around 9 a.m. after school officials contacted Bloomfield police regarding the sighting. Superintendent Sal Goncalves and Assistant Superintendent Joseph Fleres confirmed the precautionary lockdown, which lasted until approximately 10:30 a.m.
During this time, Bloomfield police officers, led by Lt. Daniel Niekrasz, conducted a thorough search of the school building. After a complete sweep, the premises were declared safe with no injuries reported.
Police determined that the unauthorized individuals had left the area before officers arrived. However, the juveniles were later identified, and one was taken into custody, according to the Bloomfield Police Department. The incident is still under investigation, though authorities emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the school.
Following the all-clear, the high school resumed normal activities, with after-school programs, including sports, continuing as scheduled. Parents who wished to pick up their children were allowed to do so.
