Hoboken NJ, authorities have charged a Lodi man with murder following the fatal shooting of a Passaic man near the Hoboken waterfront, officials announced Friday.
Suspect Identified in Castle Point Skate Park Homicide
Erick Fernandez, 26, is accused of shooting and killing 23-year-old Julio Flores in a restricted area near Castle Point Skate Park on Feb. 1, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.
The investigation began after Lodi police received multiple tips on Sunday, leading law enforcement to uncover the details of the crime.
Allegations of Murder and Theft
Prosecutors allege that Fernandez shot Flores, stole his personal belongings—including his vehicle—and later returned to dispose of his body in the Hudson River.
Despite ongoing water searches, Flores’ body has not yet been recovered.
Arrest and Charges
A warrant for Fernandez’s arrest was issued on Thursday, but he was already in custody at the Garfield Police Department on an unrelated matter.
He now faces multiple charges, including:
- First-degree murder
- Felony murder
- Robbery
- Weapons offenses
Fernandez is currently being held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility, awaiting his first court appearance.
Ongoing Investigation and Law Enforcement Response
The investigation remains active, with multiple agencies assisting, including:
- Hoboken, Lodi, Hawthorne, Garfield, and NYC police departments
- New Jersey State Police
- Stevens Institute of Technology Police Department
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office at (201) 915-1345 or submit an anonymous tip at hcpo.opsnetwork.org/tips.
