Hackensack NJ,  Lonegan for Congress today announced a fundraiser with former Trump Campaign Manager Corey Lewandowski and former Deputy Campaign Manager David Bossie that will be held on Wednesday, January 31 the Bishop House in Saddle River.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Corey and Dave to New Jersey in support of Mayor Lonegan’s campaign to take back the Fifth District,” Campaign Manager Michael D. Byrne said. “Conservatives across the district and across the country are excited about Steve’s momentum and are uniting behind him.”

The event will include a book-signing of their new tome, “Let Trump Be Trump: The Inside Story of His Rise to the Presidency.”

“The Fifth District is a tremendous location for this event because its a fundamentally conservative district — a district that President Trump won in 2016,” Byrne said. “Corey and Dave were instrumental in helping President Trump win the presidency and carry places like North Jersey where the voters are fed-up with big government, high taxes, and burdensome regulations.”

Byrne said Lonegan’s campaign to lower taxes, create jobs, enact term limits and curtail federal overreach is drawing increased attention and support within the Fifth District, around New Jersey, and across the country.

“More and more people are learning just how out of touch Josh Gottheimer is with his district and how vulnerable he is,” Byrne said. “Josh may have eeked out a win in 2016, but he won’t be able to win again against Mayor Lonegan who already won the Fifth District against the Democrat Party’s greatest so-called rising star, Cory Booker.”

Byrne said that Gottheimer is just as liberal as Booker and that his attempts to masquerade as a moderate are failing.

“Mayor Lonegan’s race will be one of the most high profile challenger races in the country,” Byrne said. “In the New York market, it will pit Mayor Lonegan — New Jersey’s most accomplished conservative crusader for the past two decades — against left-wing ideologue Josh Gottheimer who opposes tax cuts, ending Obamacare, and term limits. Mayor Lonegan will be President Trump’s greatest ally in draining the swamp and Making America Great Again.”

  1. Is this the same Steve Lonegan that was one of the most anti-Trump people during the campaign?
Is this the same Steve Lonegan that will insure a Josh Gottheimer re-election?

  2. If we can’t do better than this guy we deserve another two years of little Joshie.

  3. Lonegan was Royal Canadian Mountie Ted Cruz’s New Jersey campaign chair in 2015-2016. Unfortunate choice for him.
    .
Lonegan is vying for the Bergen County Republican Organization’s ballot line in the June primary. If Lonegan gets that line (obtained by winning a BCRO membership convention vote against other republican office-seekers) he’ll most likely win the primary. That’s how he will secure the state republican party’s nomination to get on the general election ballot against Gottheimer in November.
    .
Say what you want against Lonegan, but he will relentlessly tear into the seat of Gottheimer’s pants.
    .
Saint Corey Booker did not enjoy debating with Lonegan in the fall of 2013…Lonegan lit into him for his militant pro-abortion stance.

    First debate (hat tip Politico):
    .
He called Booker’s views on abortion “barbaric”, insisting he supports the procedure up to right before a baby’s birth. Lonegan noted he himself is about to become a grandfather.
    .

Second debate (hat tip Newark Star Ledger):
    .
“What abortion would you make illegal?” Lonegan asked Booker.
    .
“I believe in Roe vs. Wade,” Booker said.
    .
Lonegan said Booker supports abortions up to the day over delivery.
    .
“Imagine aborting a baby in the eighth month of pregnancy,” Lonegan said. “He supports that.”
    .
“That is not true,” Booker replied.
    —–
Of course it was true, Pinocchio Cory!

  4. “Is this the same Steve Lonegan that was one of the most anti-Trump people during the campaign?”
Yes… but not what you seem to be implying.
    .
Lonegan was pro Ted Cruz (that’s why he was “against” Trump), Now that Trump is in he fully supports him even though Trump wasn’t his first choice in the primaries.
Lonegan is a solid guy if you believe in Republican values like tax cutting, etc and he aligns with Trumps agenda.
    .
If you are a supporter of the Trump agenda (which it seems like you are) then a Lonegan victory would help implement it.
If you are a McCain, McConnel, Murkowski, Graham, Flake type Republican then Lonegan might not be for you in the primary.
If you are a Democrat then it does not matter who the Republicans put up since you’ll be voting “D” anyway…

  5. The fifth congressional district was recently gradually trending blue, out from under Garrett who was still showing up well for re-election every two years until he was ambushed in 2016 via a disingenuous (but admittedly politically successful) LGBT line of attack. He had all the integrity in the world (particularly compared to the average DC swamp denizen) and yet was ruthlessly trashed because he would not yield to pressure to deviate from his strong sense of traditional personal morality. Say what you want but Garrett was not going to do like Obama did and blatantly flip-flop on his belief regarding marriage only being between one biological man and one biological woman. It’s 2018 now, though, and what with the proportional advantage the Democrats have amassed in terms of affiliated registered voters in the 5th Congressional district (gubernatorial candidate Guadagno found voters living in this district considerably less inclined toward her message than did Christie when he ran twice), one would think it would take a miracle, or at least some extremely fortuitous set of circumstances going Lonegan’s way, to enable him to flip the seat back into republican hands.
