Former Bogota mayor and longtime conservative candidate Steve Lonegan has found a home leading the New Jersey campaign of Texas Senator Ted Cruz’s burgeoning presidential bid.
According to an announcement by the Republican today, Lonegan has been named the New Jersey State Chair of Cruz’s presidential campaign, launched four months ago amid much fanfare. In a press release, the Tea Party standard bearer called Lonegan a “tireless advocate for taxpayers,” and praised his work as a conservative activist in the state. (Brush/PolitickerNJ)
Lonegan does not get hung up on past transgressions or grudges, we can give him that. Cruz was silent when Lonegan took on Cory Booker for U.S. Senate two years ago when Lautenberg died and his seat became available. This was not for lack of trying to get Cruz to speak up or appear with Lonegan on the campaign trail as Sarah Palin and Rand Paul so graciously agreed to do. Lonegan for his part deserves great credit for his bravery in annihilating Booker on the abortion issue in the first debate. Booker and Lonegan are polar opposites on that issue and Lonegan exposed Booker’s love for the barbaric act.
