Mahwah NJ, Mahwah resident and Marine Corps veteran John Fesen is once again distributing free lawn signs to honor local veterans this Veterans Day, Nov. 11. For the fourth consecutive year, Fesen is funding this initiative entirely out of his own pocket to show appreciation for fellow military service members in his community.

“I’ve been doing this for three years now, and this is year number four,” Fesen shared. “I took care of everything—from designing the sign graphics to producing the signs and holders. I don’t accept any donations, even if offered.”

The lawn signs display a proud message: “A veteran lives here” and “Mahwah salutes your service!”

Aged 78, Fesen is a retired consultant who worked with industry giants PepsiCo and Unilever. His own service dates back to 1969-70, when he served as a private at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina. He is also currently a candidate for the Mahwah Township Council.

For Mahwah veterans interested in displaying a sign, Fesen will be distributing them free of charge at Veteran’s Memorial Park on Nov. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the corner of Franklin Turnpike and Miller Road. The signs are available on a first-come, first-served basis due to limited quantities. For those unable to pick one up in person, Fesen has generously offered to deliver signs directly to veterans’ homes upon request. Veterans can contact him at johnfesen@hotmail.com.

“The purpose of this gesture is to recognize, acknowledge, and appreciate Mahwah veterans who have served our country,” Fesen said. “I believe it’s important to spotlight these veterans within our community.”
