Paramus NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of ALEX CRUZ (DOB: 07/19/1990; single; salesman) of 2 Cypress Road, Suffern, NY. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department under the direction of Sheriff Anthony Cureton.
On Sunday, August 6, 2023 at approximately 7:52 p.m., the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle in the area of the Forest Avenue entrance to Van Saun Park in Paramus, NJ. Responding officers found a single vehicle crash involving a motorcycle operated by ALEX CRUZ, who had lost control, causing a female passenger and CRUZ to be ejected from the motorcycle. The female passenger was transported to Hackensack University Hospital for treatment of serious bodily injuries. CRUZ was suspected of operating his motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently placed under arrest at the scene.
As a result of the investigation, ALEX CRUZ was charged with third-degree assault by auto resulting in serious bodily injury while in violation of driving while intoxicated, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1c(2). CRUZ was also issued multiple motor vehicle summonses, including driving while intoxicated. CRUZ was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would also like to thank the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in this investigation.
