N.J. minimum wage goes up today

Trenton — New Jersey’s lowest wage earners will get a little extra change in their pockets at the end of today’s shift, while business owners will have to shell out a little more.

The state’s minimum wage, which Wednesday was $8.25 an hour, is now $8.38 due to an automatic adjustment. (Friedman/NJ.com)

  1. still not good. it should be 10 bucks, an hour.

  2. Even more unskilled people priced out of the job market. And then we ask why unemployment rates among certain classifications are pushing or exceeding 20%.

Small businesses are marginal at best.
Why force them to pay more?
It will not create new jobs.
And who said every job was a “career”? (That’s only in socialist countries….see where we are heading?)

  4. Unintended consequences.

Earth to Liberals. Business has only one objective. I know this sounds awful, but it’s to make as much profit as you can.

The net result of this higher employee cost is simply increased incentivization for these businesses to invest in automation. Just how hard do you think it is for a fast food restaurant to basically become a vending machine? There’s a reason why it’s called unskilled labor.

  5. Remember the “automat” restaurant in nyc?

  6. It has nothing to do with whether raising the minimum wage does any actual good or not. It’s all in the optics. It doesn’t matter if the overall effect is higher unemployment. It simply makes the Dems look like they are rooting for the underdog, and the underdog will vote for them more.
