Ridgewood NJ, what happens if they have primary and nobody shows? In a apparent thumbs down and no confidence vote to New Jersey politicians only  13.78% of Ridgewood registered voters came out and cast ballots .Democrat turn out was a bit higher with 30% and Republican turn out a paltry 18%.

While Trenton insider blamed the weather , the reality is Garden State  politicians have long ago lost any shed of credibility.  New Jersey voters seem to be voting with their feet instead of the ballot box and moving to greener pastures . The primary season was filled with a litany of promises no one believes and voters were left with the prospect of ever higher property taxes , more urbanization and an ever deteriorating quality of life.

A sense  of doom and dread seemed to permeate the air on primary day because even the lest connected of residents feels that the party may finally be over for New Jersey with massive bills ,pensions  and union contracts all be coming due. The huge tax increases needed may finally chase out the last bits of the tax base . New Jersey seems destined to follow neighboring state Connecticut policies  that managed to chase out GE its largest tax payer and largest employer and now Aetna Insurance. What Trenton politicians have failed to grasp with their constant attacks on the private sector is that people with money and businesses can and will move out first .

What voters should be asking politicians during this election cycle is ; give me one good reason anyone want to live in New Jersey ?

  1. On the democrat side there were no choices.

I still voted. I skipped over the Vaggianos & Co selection. My personal protest.

  2. I’m just ecstatic the Dems nominated an uber rich Goldman Sachs Alumni. The hypocrisy is going to be fun to watch.

  3. Or, there are plenty of registered independent voters who aren’t blind loyalists to one of the two parties that are dividing our country.

  4. Blind loyalists? The Hulk 8:50am, undeclared voters were not even eligible to vote in this primary. Their absence from the polls, rather than being a statement of fierce independence or moral purity, was instead merely an example of polite compliance with New Jersey law. For what it’s worth, their apparent distaste for party politics will not excuse them from the odious responsibility of choosing between the two major party candidates that emerged victorious from this primary election. And as you probably know, the chances of a saintly independent candidate riding in on a white horse and vanquishing both Demo Murphy and RINO Guadagno in the general election this November are between slim and none. So “the Hulk”, you might want to choose between DC and Marvel at some point. We need as many superheroes as we can get helping us to improve the civic environment in New Jersey.

  5. From what I hear both sides have terrible candidates. It is a shame NJ can’t find 2 decent humans to represent it. My choice will be left for the last minute just I did when I voted for Trump. I will either go and vote Guadagno by holding my nose or I won’t vote at all. No way I will cast a vote for libs.

  6. I will vote for Guadagno. I am a longtime democrat, but I am against recreational use of marijuana. Do we need more traffic fatalities? People driving while they are high on weed? And don’t tell me weed doesn’t damage the brain; reliable studies say it does. Murphy wants to legalize recreational use of marajuana. Guadagno does not. Murphy says it will bring in big revenue for NJ in form of taxes. I don’t care. Health and safety are paramount. I believe this is the most important issue of all. Medical use of marajuana is fine. I don’t care what other states have done; they are wrong, and they will come to see the error of their ways. Also, marijuana could be a slippery slope to opioides and heroin.

  7. What planet are you on 310?
With all the bullshit going on around us THIS is your protest swan song?
If health and safety are so important to you then why did you completely gloss over the alcohol related accidents and deaths that are statistically way higher than any know figures related to the same instances for marjauana? And stop with the gateway comparison…old and unproven data. Here’s some fresh numbers for you…200 million dollars in revenue on 1 BILLION dollars in sales. In Colorado alone! If you think for one second any state, let alone NJ is going to pass up those kind of dollars then YOU should stop smoking the ganja.

  8. Marijuana will exceed the alcohol deaths. I didn’t mention alcohol, but it was implied in my statement, do we need more traffic fatalities from drugs. When marijuana becomes prevalent and legal I predict a huge increase in traffic deaths. Look, I hate smart phones and cars together. The two should not be allowed on the road; there is an increase in traffic fatalities due to texting etc with smart phones that take away attention from the road. I have even seen TV commercials about that. I have even protested about lack of buses for everyday transportation instead of cars, a lot of good it did. Don’t worry you will get your way; money talks, health and safety do not, they are always on the back burner until too late. Take cigarettes, I was against them since 1950s; a lot of good it did.

  9. I’m a registered Republican and I will vote for the democrat because I think legalization of marijuana is important. Archaic laws and attitudes make it difficult for physicians and researchers to obtain.

    Sure you are…
