Roseland NJ, The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) is pleased to announce that a New Jersey Senate resolution (SR101) has designated the week of November 6 through 12 as “Certified Public Accountants Week.” The resolution was sponsored by Senator Steven Oroho (R-24), the only CPA in the Legislature, and Senate President Nick Scutari (D-22). SR101 passed the full Senate unanimously. No there will not be a parade .

The CPA Week initiative complements the NJCPA’s Career Awareness program that connects NJCPA members, who often have local ties to a particular community, with students and faculty at high schools to encourage students to enter the accounting field. Dozens of New Jersey CPAs will visit high schools throughout the state to inform students about having a successful career in accounting. NJCPA members will discuss what courses are necessary to become a CPA, what role accountants play in businesses and what they can do with a degree in that field.

The presentations also make the students aware of the many scholarship opportunities available through the NJCPA Scholarship Fund, which awards $1,500 scholarships to college-bound New Jersey high school seniors who intend to major in accounting or obtain a concentration in accounting. The Fund also awards scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $6,500 to accounting students at New Jersey colleges or universities who are currently in their sophomore or junior year or in their senior year and entering an accounting-related graduate program. In 2022, the Fund awarded $230,000 in scholarships to more than 55 high school and college students. Learn more at njcpa.org/scholarships.

During CPA Week, the NJCPA will announce the 10 winners of its third annual CPA Exam Fee Lottery. In an effort to reduce the burden of taking and preparing for the CPA Exam, the Society will award 10 members with $750 each towards their CPA Exam fees. Chosen at random, the winners are either Student or CPA Candidate members of the NJCPA.

“CPAs are the unsung heroes of the business world,” said Ralph Albert Thomas, CPA (DC), CGMA, CEO and executive director at the NJCPA. “The NJCPA appreciates the efforts of Senator Oroho and Senate President Scutari in recognizing the integrity, objectivity and professionalism of thousands of New Jersey CPAs who help foster economic growth across the state.”
