Newark NJ, New Jersey Transit Police apprehend man wanted for violating parole regarding the sexual assault of a juvenile.

Recently, while off duty, New Jersey Transit Police Officer AT Melendez received a phone call from an agent assigned to the US Marshals. The agent advised that a suspect who was wanted for a parole violation was possibly in or around Newark Penn Station. The parole violation regarded a conviction for a previous sexual assault of a 14-year-old. Proactively and without delay, Officer Melendez phoned on duty Sergeant Segro. Hearing the details, Sergeant Segro directed officers to search the station and perimeter.
Officer Mark Schmidt observed the subject near the rear entrance to Newark Penn Station. He immediately moved in, confirmed ID, and detained the wanted man in handcuffs. The US Marshals arrived shortly thereafter and took custody of the man.
