New Milford NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of MATTHEW HARRIES (DOB: 03/14/1992; single; unemployed) of 4 Bulger Avenue, Apt. B, New Milford, NJ on sexual assault and other assault charges. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the New Milford Police Department under the direction of Chief Brian Clancy.
On Wednesday, September 22, 2021, the New Milford Police reported to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office that they received information that MATTHEW HARRIES sexually and physically assaulted a woman with whom he was familiar. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the New Milford Police Department revealed that HARRIES held the woman against her will then physically and sexually assaulted her. He also threatened to kill her, but she was able to escape from HARRIES.
As a result of the investigation, MATTHEW HARRIES was arrested and charged by the New Milford Police Department with one count of second-degree sexual assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(1); one count of second-degree aggravated assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(13); one count of third-degree criminal restraint, N.J.S.A. 2C:13-2b; one count of third-degree terroristic threats, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-3a; and the disorderly persons offense of simple assault, N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1a(1). He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would like to thank the New Milford Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
