Ridgewood introduced a host of crosswalk upgrades throughout the Central Business District (CBD) on Friday with a facelift to the intersection of East Ridgewood Avenue and Cottage Place.

New crosswalks in the Central Business District are a bright red color to alert both motorists and pedestrians.
The new decorative crosswalks, which are characterized by a brighter red color and brick pattern finish, are designed to increase pedestrian safety in the downtown area, which has been a priority for village officials and police following an increase in pedestrian accidents.

“The purpose of the crosswalks is really to delineate the crosswalks for both pedestrians and the cars,” said Ridgewood Mayor Keith Killion. “It makes them stand out a little bit, grabs your attention a little bit more, and instead of painting them solid yellow or whatever, this is a little more fitting with the downtown area.”
